How much does a Gearnex Gear Head run?
What legs do you use with your setup?
Does it take two operators to use the gear head?
That means that you have not properly screwed it in, you must apply a bit of pressure when screwing in the bolts, as you are going thru the center holes, which are threaded, and that could lead to some spacing, it takes few trials at times to get it right, no problem of course when mounting directly to the two outer holes as they aren't threaded.
Yeah, we must be doing something wrong. There's always a space using the threaded holes. So we switched to the off set not threaded. I'd like to see what exactly you are doing to get the threaded holes to work. Are you screwing one at a time, or both bit by bit? My LCD is 5" but I won't think it's base is all that much different from your 9".
You need to use partially threaded screws instead of regular ones...
if you use regular ones across 2 threads it is very difficult to be tight. Get the right ones, you will be a happy camper...
Well, actually not that long at all, at list if Panning or tilting, if executing both movements at the same time, then yes, it takes a bit of practice in order to get both movement contemporarily, hitting your marks or getting the intended movements.
Yes old operator used to practice geared heads by doing some camera movement reproducing the infinite sign (∞). It is tricky because you need to reverse one hand direction while keeping on with the other hand movement... but with enough practice you get used to it![]()
Ketch, have you tried the OConner 1030D heads? I'm thinking about getting one but they only take 13kg which seems a bit low. The Ds takes 18kg but can only have 60 degree angle up and down.
I'm realizing that I'm going to have a very similar setup to you in the end but hopefully a little bit lighter

I hope Will it is using this type of bolt, aren't you Will?
But I also have managed to get it right with standard bolts that ship with the LCD it self.
Nope, I'm doing it all wrong, using fully threaded bolts. Glad I asked.
