  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

June Update

I was figuring that July was almost certain with. December preorder... It seems unlikely now, though. My rep is trying to arrange a loaner for me for a shoot I have coming up.

It does seem like the May halt on Scarlet-W became a two-month hold since there haven't been any new allocations for Scarlet-W in June, though. Hopefully those allocations that they're catching up on were actual Scarlet-W preorders, rather than switchers.

So they wait is frustrating, but having a loaner possibility is something that isn't normally an option at all for people who haven't paid for cameras yet.

Yup.

It can be frustrating having to wait, and more than once I've asked myself why they don't just expand the facilities, hire more people, add more shifts... and the answer is because it's not that easy.

Because Red is the company it is, I suspect they make what they do look a heck of a lot easier than it really is. So when there are delays it's easy to forget that the tech we're talking about was unimaginable just 10 years ago.

And no, I'm not trying to suck up for a Weapon upgrade, I'm just fed up of whiny-ass first-world-problem bitches who need to get some perspective!

Just to play devils advocate, "I'm just fed up of whiny-ass first-world-problem bitches who need to get some perspective" is kind of funny to me. Are we not customers that are lining up to pay for a product that was designed and priced by a company? It's not like we're making demands for more than what was announced and priced. And to say it was "unimaginable 10 years ago" isn't really a valid argument. I'll tell my clients that want to finish in 4K on a low budget that it was "unimaginable 10 years ago" and that they need to stop being "whiny-ass first-world-problem bitches". ;)

EDIT: and just to clarify, obviously delays and stuff happen. The camera will come when it comes. But to criticize people for their disappointment seems like an exercise in futility. Realize that the disappointment is related to the excitement for the camera. And people are voicing their disappointment here because it's an open forum designed for open communication.

^^ All of the This ^^

I have twin teenagers. I'm a great father but, well, I'm just terribly sick of entitlement.
It. Is. Everywhere. And when I see/hear/read it with adults it----I'm just sick of it.

As a new member of the community it's been wonderful reading helpful posts full of knowledge, experience and candor. There's always going to be morons filling cyberspace with idiocy so I take that with a grain of salt. And yes, Josh, I understand they're not giving away Weapon upgrades. I don't even have an order in yet. I'm not saying these things because I think somebody is listening. You better be Joshing me.

Haha, I was just poking fun about the Weapon upgrades.

But you'll never, ever, convince me that wondering about the status of a camera that some people put a 10% down payment on ($1k on a $10k body), along with more in accessories (I already have my SSDs and some accessories, several thousand dollars worth), is "entitlement." No one is demanding to get their camera now. No one is demanding that RED owes them anything additional. I'm really curious how any of this is entitlement. Is it entitlement at a restaurant to ask a hostess why your party hasn't been seated after an hour of waiting at a busy restaurant? Screaming that they owe you free dinner or a special table in the VIP area would be entitlement. Being curious about what the delay is, is not.

Disappointment is totally understandable. I'm disappointed not to have got my camera yet.

As far as I'm concerned when you decide to pre-order any product, you accept that you're in for something different than buying a product off a shelf, especially when it's cutting edge tech. I think the issue is that a *lot* of people, myself included, are new to the Red thing and not used to this kind of pre-order experience, so there is a sizeable gap between expectation and experience.

Which is probably a nicer way of saying "whiny ass bitches" :)

So OK we aren't use to the process, but RED should be use to it. Especially when they specifically told me when I ordered that I will get it in Spring. Spring is gone now and might not even be in Summer. The quality of their product makes me wait, but if I was buying anything else I wouldn't be putting up with this.

So... RED just released their lowest price camera EVER.... you do realize that right? You can't possibly think only a few hundred people ordered one...

so what. Why are they telling us delivery time frame in the emails and then breaking it? And I didn't ordered the lowest price camera.

Come on now - it takes as long as it takes but accounting knows how many Raven orders have been fulfilled. One has to assume that the top secret status is because the news is not positive. But still, I would just like straight dope rather than bomb squad rep feeling like a debt collector is calling LOL
and this will be 3rd and 4th Red camera BTW

Hey sorry guys.. Didn't mean to go radio silent, just been insanely busy. It's not quite July ( time for my monthly update ) but i'll chime in anyways. Yes we expanded, more people and added shifts but that's not why we can't keep up.. it's a part problem we just can't make enough sensors to keep up with the demand. And nothing we ourselves can throw at the problem to speed it up as sensors need to bake in the ovens and you just can't rush that.

That said... we have made a considerable investment in ovens for our brand new pixels that you should start seeing meaningful results in the next month or two.

But make no mistake ... the backorder line is long and painful and the wait is very real. It is getting better.. but it's not going to fix itself overnight.

Thank you for your patience.. and I fully accept and deserve your impatience... we all feel the heat.

Showing my lack of knowledge in the process of making sensors: I always thought that "ovens" and "baking" were figurative terms. Do these things really go in an oven?
OK, you can stop laughing now :)

The cameras will come. Still rocking the Epic Dragon which is no slouch until the new one arrives...

I'm just as clueless as you in terms of making sensors.
But, my guess is that some heating + cooling is required to harden and/or soften any material. So... yes... an oven is needed to make a sensor.

First time I've heard this other than as speculation. Good to finally get an explanation which very likely is affecting the 8k sensors as well. I'll be more at ease knowing it isn't totally a preferential treatment thing but rather a logistics thing.

Thanks for the reassuring words Jarred.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU JARRED!

I've been wanting to get into RED since you guys were that splash page with those INSANE specs (for 2006...that are even relevant today, 10 years later) and that pic of the drag car. Haha. Yup. I've been an eager spectator. Heck. I even had camera #751 for the RED ONE on order. Life happened to me and I had to sadly relinquish my order.

Zip 10 years later, you guys have grown astronomically, I have grown a little, and now, my finances, and the camera option you have made available (I have a timestamp Jan. 1st order for the Scarlet-W) are in line.

In a marathon race, it's that last mile that can be the brutal one. I feel it.

I'm not mad at ya guys, for real. My ansty-ness is just that that 10 year race is almost coming to an end. I've called and asked, I promise, politely, just at least a ballpark.
My rep said they were hoping before the end of summer (end of August). But then I asked back, would it be more conservative of me to expect more September then. She chuckled and said, yeah, just to be on the safe side.

I respectfully chuckled back and said okay then.

So...

I purchased a used Scarlet-X from a trusted soucre to at least get my feet wet in RED in the meantime.

So, I'll play with some of your "old school" cameras until I get that fateful email calling my number up. When you got lemons, make lemonade, right? :-)

I know the wait will be worth it.

AND! Having a more firm grasp on the timeline and setting my expectations to be reasonable, I put in a second order for another Scarlet-W a few weeks back. I'm TOTALLY COOL not expecting that cam until well into 2017. Just wanted to get back in that line as I know this ride is awesome!

Thank you Jarred again. Not kissing your ass. Just being sincerely appreciative of taking a moment to chime in as you probably have coffee intravenously pumping into your arm through all this. Keep at it! We're ALL cheering for you guys!

I'm getting really antsy to get my S-W in hand, but please don't rush the job at the expense of QC! Keep on keeping on, and make the sensors the best you can.

Are these like, easy bake ovens Jarred? I think I might be able to spare you one of mine?!? :)

Lack of sensors is not new news...I'm pretty sure Jarred has mentioned this before.

What IS new is that they are taking steps to help with this bottleneck and really it can't come soon enough.....
