  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

June Update

There are now a few months of feedback from users. I guess they are fixing some issues too. It must take some extra time. Fixing the body graphics fading, the fragile monitors, etc.

Are the non-dealer allocations first in first out fulfillment order?
I see allocations for orders supposedly after I ordered.
The bomb squad is also keeping radio silence.
Painful truth is better than silence.
Please? )

Yes, it's been very depressing sinc April. I'm hearing a lot of craziness and I don't know who do believe. RED is more political than I thought!!

Thanks for the Info Being a Reseller I have ran out of Apologies.
Now i Just copy Paste Jared Post in the mails to the customers.
I would like to point out one issue with weapon if you attache the Top Handle it is very difficult to mount the RED Brick or any sort of V-Lock Batteries. Most Rental Houses are DP's prefer the V-lock Options.

Hi Peter,

RED has this option which allows you to leverage V-Lock battery options:

I just want to point out, that many switchers where waiting shorter for their scarlet-W than all the straight orders from beginning of December. So the argument of who waited longer is no longer. Someone who ordered Raven on Sept. 25 and then switched (whenever) has already got their camera, some of them even in March. That's just 6 months. I am waiting already more then 6 and most of the early December switchers almost 8. Switchers are the most valuable I guess.

I guess this doesn't really matter anymore. It's sad, but let's just hope they will not get any big problems with the lines / delays at this point.

I really hoped to get the camera for this summer season, but it looks like the current ETA is like september or something (feb timestamp). Oh well :)

Can't speak to RED's process, but a lot of the time radio silence can mean that someone has a new set of circumstances, is adjusting to the scenario, then planning out the next moves. The RED team has shown that they listen and read what is happening on the forums and I would put my money on the fact that they aren't ignoring anyone. Personally (if I were in their shoes), I would rather have some people grow impatient while I figure out some hard facts, instead of tossing uncalculated estimations into the wild. Not to say your wishes of updates are not the same as mine...but I'm hoping the silence means a big update with some calculated estimations is on the way...or just wishful thinking :)

PS uncalculated is totally not a word, but I still wanted to use it.

Hi Michael,
Thanks a lot Am Aware of this Handle But it is too small and there's no stop start. Kind of Trade Off.

Update from Sydney Australia.

Update from Sydney Australia.

Hi all, since I ordered my scarlet-w through the only dealer in Sydney Australia, I actually don't know my queue number therefore I emailed the dealer to check. And this is the reply I received from them.

"Hi Jaiden,
You are currently number 20 on our pre-order lists (and only 1 scarlet-w has been and gone in the past few months) and you will be contacted when your camera has been allocated. It is not ready yet, and we do not have an ETA at hand."

The only scarlet-w in Australia was received around 4 May. It means that Red only shipped one Scarlet-w to Australia within the last two months. Since the Raven month event, June was absolutely nothing but I'm surprised that July is with the same result : Zero shipment to Australia. Although I'm upset, everyone said good things are worth waiting, I still want to receive my Scarlet-w AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Hoping the July update will give all of us surprises.

Thanks.

I have to say I'm getting a little nervous about the silence too...

as a Jan. Order I thought I was safe to organise a shoot in late August with the possible Scarlet-W and being a young student filmmaker working on films with incredibly low budgets, me scraping together, saving up and buying a Scarlet-W was going to save us a lot of money on rentals for our August project as well as the future

I'm now stuck in the position where I've got to work out whether it's still economically viable for me to go through with the order considering a large chunk of it being 'paid for' in work will be missed.

Oh well, I guess it's my fault for being too optimistic :P

I think pretty much everyone waiting has a shoot they've love to use their upcoming camera for - while I love the camera I'm currently using as my weekly workhorse (using Samsung NX1 for 2 shoots a week, every week), I too was hoping to use my Raven (I had a mid-Jan order) for a mid-Aug shoot but that is quickly becoming unlikely by the day.

As far as the silence goes, why does it mean something bad? They could just be heads-down focusing on getting the cameras out....

And what's this I hear about fading logos and monitor issues??

Red has zero obligation to keep us up to date.
A still further removed obligation is Jarred (Freakin') Land popping in several times a month to comment. No other camera company does that. Be happy we get anything at all.

Also, it's beyond me why anybody in their right mind would schedule a shoot when you don't have a camera. That makes about as much sense as slamming your hand in a car door repeatedly, on purpose, and asking yourself why it's happening.

I know it's an adjustment coming from Canon Nikon Sony ect., having to wait like this. I get it.
But we're not hearing a peep out of veteran RED users because they know the deal, the quality and the craft of RED. Not their first rodeo, so they know what they stand to gain. It's an inevitability, not a maybe or possibility. The cameras will ship.

Pretty sure this is what's going on. Between getting all these DSMC2 cameras out, plus launching several new high-end cameras, I'm betting there isn't much time or energy left for dealing with the all the angst and rumors here on reduser.

You know they stopped handing out the Weapon upgrades, right? ;)

We've all heard this before, we get it. You're right that RED has zero obligation to keep us up to date, but it's in their interest to do it. It restores confidence for us. I bet BlackMagic lost a lot of customers that got fed up with their lack of communication and constant delays. Not saying I or others here are just going to jump ship but silence can be disconcerting.

I think a lot of us are just confused why June seemingly had so few allocations. Fixing possible issues is a big deal, so I think we'd be understanding about that. And maybe RED can't really talk about why things are delayed (I'm sure a lot of other camera companies pop into these forums) if it's sensitive in any way. It's just a bummer that having a Dec 10th preorder, I've kicked off March, April, May (well, before the update), and June thinking "hopefully by the end of the month!" Will July be the same song, different verse?

I am so excited about the last line Jarred. I know there is a lot going on as of now but will wait for this announcement, hopefully soon. You guys are the best !

This.

There is a hard truth regarding all the DSMC2 cameras. People want them. A lot of people. Likely more than RED has had to deal with before, especially with so many new camera bodies and accessories.

All of this is indeed an exercise in digesting upgrades, camera allocation, payment processing, various levels of customer communication, part sourcing, QC, manufacturing, QC, camera assembly, really big QC, packing, and shipping. Likely more steps than that when I think about it further. Especially when looking at volumes of orders.

There's a lot of people working hard to assemble and build your cameras and getting them out the door. And they are slowly, but surely doing exactly that.

I enjoy checking Facebook and Instagram in particular because a lot of the evidence of shipping cameras tends to happen out there. This month I saw a few Scarlet-Ws, a good amount of Ravens, and a few Weapons go out. RED might allocate some floor time to a specific model again to deal with a chunk of orders in July.

Either way some of the insane rumors aren't exactly justified. It's a waiting game towards your allocation, I've been there and other's have been there. It always has been.

July is around the corner and I'm certain Jarred will drop another update revealing any plan of attack. He's been clear and concise along the way. A level of clarity you don't really get from other brands. That is indeed much appreciated.

Yup.

It can be frustrating having to wait, and more than once I've asked myself why they don't just expand the facilities, hire more people, add more shifts... and the answer is because it's not that easy.

Because Red is the company it is, I suspect they make what they do look a heck of a lot easier than it really is. So when there are delays it's easy to forget that the tech we're talking about was unimaginable just 10 years ago.

And no, I'm not trying to suck up for a Weapon upgrade, I'm just fed up of whiny-ass first-world-problem bitches who need to get some perspective!
