Geoff Boyle posted last night that Jim was retiring.. which is inaccurate.

If you knew Jim, he is not the kinda guy that can just ride off into the sunset.

Jim's vision is not something that can be turned off. He has way too many things left to do.

In his own words:

"I will now sink into the background, I hope with my reputation intact. I will work on the future of digital cinema... behind the scenes."

Just wanted to clear that up. I have been reading alot of Eulogies this morning and make no mistake.. there is no RED without Jim.

RED Leader hangs around in the background... that's OK ;)

Phew

Phew

Thank you for this clarification. I think it's really important to make this very public.

And I agree, Jim really deserves some rest. It's been an amazing ride, and in my lifetime I can only wish to accomplish a fraction of what he's done just in the last year.

I really hope this means the Madman can spend more time with a camera in his hands. I have found creative activity most rejuvenating, I hope Jim does to, it's hard to really enjoy life if you're overly fatigued.

Cheers - #19

Bingo.....

Thanks for clarifying, Jarred. Never thought otherwise though.

Good to hear. I didn't expect him to vanish or even stop working on the future, I know he's not the type to do that. I did want to treat him to some more positive thoughts from a great deal of folks whose lives have essentially been changed by Red cameras. I think that's a better concept than some of the other crazy talk happening around here lately.

Personally I want to see more of Jim's footage. His passion for photography is what started this whole thing. Hope to see more from the man in the future.

Good to have this sentence underlined officially, because it looks like it got lost. Thanks Jarred.

Apparently a lot of people out there only read a couple sentences from a post. I was busy catching up on the reduser threads and just now switched over to Twitter where there are hundreds of tweets proclaiming Jim has stepped down from RED. Even from Engadget! WTF??

No surprises, Jarred. It seemed pretty apparent from the outset what Jim was really saying. Some times people are just, well... stupid. :-(

Ok. That's the feeling I got from his post. All great minds need time to reflect. Jim is well deserving of this time and will only make him better.
I'm sure we'll some some nice Dragon footage from Fiji sometime :)

Very good news. All the best to Jim

Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes.
The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them.
About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They invent. They imagine. They heal. They explore. They create. They inspire. They push the human race forward.
Maybe they have to be crazy.
How else can you stare at an empty canvas and see a work of art? Or sit in silence and hear a song that’s never been written? Or gaze at a red planet and see a laboratory on wheels?
We make tools for these kinds of people.
While some see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.

i think this can fit here, Jim makes my dream come true. thanks jim, thanks red
