The disrespect in calling a billionaire a scammer... cuts deep. Imagine putting up with people like that on a daily basis... when you've accomplished so much already? I'm no RED fanboy either... I disagree with many things Jim Jannard has done... but I cannot stand that language that is so popular in American culture. Yes I do believe Jim can be downright unprofessional... but imagine putting up with the BS he has to put up with... a old man in his position? Yes we all seek for respect. I know I have been so profoundly offended by the unjustified actions of many in our industry. At the end of the day... we have a hater society. People just love to hate. If Jim had introduced the RED One at 100k+ he would have the respect he deserves industry wide. All this came from the price point being too low and fucking up the entire game.

I can call a billionaire a scammer all I want - a large number of billionaires come from Wall Street, and got their billions through outright fraud. People who run drug cartels are billionaires. Being a billionaire doesn't mean much, in itself. You can be a good one or a bad one. I also think when you make a lot of provocative and unconventional statements, some people won't like you, others will adore you. That's life, that's how it's always been, and that's how it was for Jim. I don't get why he's even surprised. It's not a bad thing really, kind of the price you have to pay, a price worth paying in the end.
** EDIT - David was saying much of the same thing as I typed this. HA!
I'm not going to deny that there is a certain anti-Red faction out there, larger perhaps than the anti-(place name of unloved manufacturer here) factions that float around. But Red is a bold and brassy, rock-n-roll company, and that is bound to make it a target. Yes, sometimes I'm appalled by the automatic and unfair disparaging of Red technology that goes on at various industry venues.
But Geoff Boyle is not part of that; he's opinionated and says things off-the-cuff sometimes, but he is fact-based and image-based, he has excellent visual taste, and he works with all of these technologies on a regular basis. I've known Geoff since the pre-digital days and his strong opinions sometimes rubbed the big manufacturers like Kodak the wrong way, but he didn't take sides and he called things as he saw them. And he is always out there keeping up with new technologies and continually changing his mind -- a cranky comment about one piece of kit at NAB one year may turn into a praise the next year if that tool had improved itself, fixed what Geoff thought was wrong. Like me, he's probably never going to stick with one brand of anything for the rest of his life, there's no brand loyalty that all companies love and strive for (especially Red), he will go to whoever delivers what he needs at the time. But unlike me, Geoff is a strong personality who spends less time worrying about being politically correct, just like Jim Jannard. The world belongs to people like them.

Geoff and Art who?
synesthete & Aesthete ...I'm not trying to insult you Elsie , that's not what this tread is about.
what was your major in school or degree if you have one? If I my ask.
Sometimes in life, people deserve better than they get. Jim Jannard has a lot. He worked for all of it. But there are people who are crass and stupid enough to deny him the immense respect he deserves. These are small minded people. These are critics who will never accomplish the kind of things he has. He deserves their respect. When he doesn't get it, it is their own stupidity showing. I wish he didn't take it to heart as he does, but accomplished men are also some times men with the biggest hearts. And hearts can hurt.
Jim, stay well and stay strong, even as you deny your critics the opportunity to pick at you. Sadly, it is those who have huge respect for you that will miss your presence. I have only met you a couple times in passing but I can say that, despite being only a couple years younger than you, you are one of my heroes. Because of you, I still have great ambition in my life and a continuing desire to do something great. A man has to dream. You are an inspiration to people, young and old.
Peace and love.
Aren't you saying the same thing but in a different way?

He did for Cinema-Cameras, what others did by introducing desktop publishing. It is not the same world for me anymore: Thank you.
... and thanks Terry for being who you are.
Down to my level??? Come on Elsie when you have to hide behind words with extra long definitions that no one uses, to insult them on a higher level it really explains your level of education. So keep searching the net and writing down your words to act intelligent but remember ..no one likes a smart ass.
