  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Thank you Mr. Jannard. I may not agree with all your decisions.... but what you've accomplished speaks for itself. You've changed an industry and empowered people like me to start their businesses.
 
Dear Jim,

The love that has gone into your work will never be any less or more for whether it is seen or appreciated by any or none at all. I hope you may find a measure of peace in that. And then hopefully all that will remain is joy at the many thousands of people whose lives you have touched and helped to empower.

I don't believe there are truer words than...

In 2006, we announced the RED ONE. 4K for under $20K. That was quite shocking. Sony's digital cinema cameras were $200k+. Apparently shocking enough that I almost got into a fist fight with Geoff Boyle in the aisle of NAB where he questioned why we would "scam" people into giving us $1000 deposits for a product that could never happen. Scam?

So, is Geoff Boyle the originator of the "RED is a scam!" comment? That's interesting. He will probably go down in history with the guy that told Einstein his Theory of Relativity was BS. That guys name was... was... Oh well, his name didn't survive... but Einstein! Who will ever forget THAT name!?

You have rocked this industry with all of your hard work and dedication. When people doubted you, you rose above it all. You're an inspiration to every filmmaker that anything is possible when you put your mind to it. Thank you for setting the new standard.
 
I had operated my own humble company for many years. When Jim and the rest of the RED crew came on the scene it changed my life. My company got absorbed by a much larger music agency and I was put in charge of all cinema productions for the company. This position, and new life, is due to the images I was able to produce from RED. The accomplishments at RED has given me the tools I need to create the images that has changed my life and the lives of all my clients. That, Mr. Jannard, is priceless.

Thank you Mr. Jannard. You are an inspiration. A few years ago, I started looking into cameras because I knew I wanted to make movies. That's when I found out about RED and saw the rumors about the Epic and Scarlet cameras. When I started looking at costs of those as opposed to the 1080p cameras I had been looking at before, everything changed. I knew where I needed to invest now. Without you and all the hard work of RED, I'd be stuck with a camera that would be outdated as I bought it, and was already substandard to what I want to do.
Now I'm in the process of building my own Scarlet kit, and today will be my first day on set filming with an Epic. It's amazing how life has changed in the short time since I found out about RED, and I have you to thank for that. I saw you at NAB a couple years ago, but never had the pleasure of meeting you. I hope that changes, but regardless, I'll do my best to make you proud of what you've done for me and my dreams.

With any innovator comes backlash, you can't expect to change the status quo without pissing people off, ruffling feathers or provoking revenge. Camera execs all over the world are disgruntled, angry and vengeful because of Jim. Because of Red, they can't sleep at night, go away for extended vacations, and their jobs are even less secure as they try to play catch up. You've changed the industry. Any important person who drives change is always subject to this! Unfortunately! Thanks Jim!

Hopefully Jim will still play his part behind the scenes, and who know, maybe scan these forums to see the brilliant work people are doing.

Besides, if I had a choice, I'd be in Fiji too.
 
Jim definetely deserves better, in my book he is the same kind of man as Steve Jobs, even though Jobs got more attention due to his products being in almost any hand in the world, but the innovation, the vision is something very few have. To change an industry like Jim did is very rare, to change something so much that it puts an end to an era is superrare.

Say what you want about the cameras, the Red One was the film killer, maybe not at the time, but on the film industry scale, all of a sudden people joined in and changed into digital, only a few left choose film and that is mostly because of them being used to it, like working with it or don't have the money to go through an advanced process to get the look. Jim changed the film industry, he changed 100 years of celluloid and gave quality to the hands of the many.

To not give him credit for what he did, whichever camera-camp you come from is to be just plain stupid. He deserves a huge amount of credit and when film is truly dead, people will know how it started, from which vision it started.
 
Outstanding job sir..cheers I really want to thank you for opening the doors with an upgrade program and making my dream come true. I had no idea to how I was going to afford my dream camera, Epic-X . I thank you for your goals because you have made a way for many to reach theirs. As you move to the background celebrate your goals and celebrate yourself, many are call but few are chosen to change the world. As your invention gets better we get better Thank You. ( camera so good that I still want a RED ONE MX with all of the trimmings) =)
 
Side note: Ketch is right; I posted this in the wrong place. It was 4 AM and having just read Jim's post, I wanted to respond. Perhaps the mods will move it?

I never read CML myself but, rather than certain folks protesting that they are not really bashing RED at all, it would certainly quiet the critics a bit if they came out and actually made comments which gave Jim his due; explicitly afford him the respect he has earned for doing what he has done for the industry.

Just a thought.
 
Jim - ever since a friend talked about RED in 2008 to me, I sought to own one of these revolutionary cameras. Thank you for not only shaking up the industry numerous times, but making 4K (and now 6K!) affordable. It's been great to up my game from DSLR video + photo work.

I no longer feel limited by the technology in my hands, only my imagination.
 
Jim, you sly dog. This makes me want the Dragon upgrade even more. Just so I can help to poke a few critics in the eye a bit. Clever marketing trick!!

I din't say it was, just that they are not all facts... Just like any other community, there is the good and the Bull Shit, more ball then none... That is why I decided not to participate and in fact stopped all together with any and all other forums, s I find myself very good in here, and at list here I know many in person, and there is only the very few disrespectful, which if and when one day I will meet them face to face...

I do not mind OPINIONS but when they are stated as facts form the ignorants, then I take offense if directed at me or some one I care about, or if directed at Gear I as a professional I use, and I will defend it in either way.


Any way, it is very easy to talk on the net, without ever seen the other in the face, but in person it is all a different story... I have learned this about the net, and am treasuring the experiences for when I lunch my first products, and make my first film, so to know not to GIVE a SHIT about any one's opinions, and just do what ever I want and what ever pleases me, those that like it good the better for me, those that don't I could care less.


They will always be other products for them to buy and use, and there will always be other movies for them to watch.
