  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

January 2016 update

The "OMAP" board was bad, which prevented the camera from properly outputting battery percentage info. My camera was received at RED last Thursday.

Interesting. I wonder why that board is needed in the new camera. Makes me wonder how much of our old camera we are actually getting back.

It may not need it. But when you trade in your camera, it has to be functioning perfect.

I also had a "broken" headphone jack which needed to be replaced which will delay the upgrade. Just a heads up as I was unaware that it wasn't in working order

This is always my fear when trading up- broken bits... So far I've been blessed with perfect cameras and no problems with the trade ins I have done.
This time I am counting on the same because there's no way I could pay the extra for any major repairs. It is only because of the drop in price with the new boards and the $5k credit that I was able to do the upgrade this time.
We'll see since mine was received at RED last Friday - they should be getting to mine soon.

I dreamt last night that Brent posted on here that they had gotten 5,000 epics in for the upgrade, so it was now going to be a 25-30 day wait for upgrades. Talk about a nightmare! Although, processing and upgrading 166+ Epics a day would be pretty impressive!

The lens mount has been checked and already sent back to me. That was quick.
The body moved to invoicing and payment now... Hopefully this means that the $5k accessory credit will start to be processed so I can have what I need to shoot with when it's done.
It's weird, but I feel like the time my Red One went in for the MX sensor upgrade. I'm all excited and stuff.

i got my lens mount back today, and completed payment on the upgrade. Also received my aluminum 7" Touch today. My awesome rep, Heather, said the Weapon should ship in a couple days...fingers crossed!!

Yeah, I am really interested to see when the $5k hits your account. Seems like it should hit 24 hours or so after paying as that's the invoice, but he also kept mentioning shipping. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me to that the camera is not "invoiced" until shipping, seems like payment would be the invoicing period and the credit would hit before the camera ever ships. But yeah, let us know when that hits.

When did your dragon get to red?
My Dragon got to RED last Thursday (2/18). My upgrade was delayed a day while a problem found during evaluation was repaired. So looks like the whole upgrade process will take just over a week from receiving the Dragon to shipping the Weapon. Pretty amazing when you consider all the steps and people involved. Thanks RED Team!

Mine got there last Friday morning.

Interesting. Mine was signed for Friday morning at 9:30, but silence. However, I did find out Monday that my Bomb Rep is no longer at RED, so not totally sure who my Rep is. I've had a little dealing with one guy about ordering mags, but no further info on who my rep is or any camera upgrade info.

Camera got to RED friday morning. Just got an email about the repairs necessary (PL mount board, wasn't a required fix for them and I don't use the pins anyway, so saved some cash there.) Now waiting to be contacted by my new bomb rep for payment.

From Epic to Weapon not much anymore... we mostly need the cameras to be functional for the trade in so when I donate them to schools or sell them to our institutional / military customers they work as they would expect them to. If we took back janky cameras with pieces broken the value would go way down and your upgrade prices would go way up :)

How does one get one (or more) of these donations to schools? I got our CAM department to buy an Epic, but the funds weren't there to Dragonize it, let alone to get a B cam.
I would always just bring in my Dragon when teaching my classes (and soon my Weapon!). A few of them have moved on to buying RED cameras - I do the best I can to indoctrinate them ;)

New upgrades arriving always feel like Christmas. :-D Proud MG Weapon #00079 owner here. Can't wait for the cable-less WC plate to get here to work with the Red Base expander nicely without the messy power cable in the way.
