  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

January 2016 update

I got my notification yesterday and my rep informed me that I was one of the first to place the order which was December 21st. At that time, they didn't even make an announcement yet for brand new pre-orders, but I randomly caught it on the site and did it immediately. I'm just happy that for once a company is on time and actually AHEAD of schedule (Black Magic Design take note). What's funny is the day before a rep told me it would be a couple more weeks, but I caught Jared's post at 1:00 AM which I am glad to see was accurate. Good to know that this forum has reliable information. Hopefully you guys get your cameras soon!

We are not “prioritizing” new over upgrade, per se. Remember we have been taking deposits for upgrade since last NAB so there is a monster queue. For new Mg, we only opened up fairly recently (i.e, once we were caught up with new CF orders) so less time to build up orders.

That being said, now that we have Mg parts, we can obviously make new ones at same time as upgrades so new orders are going to ship within a few days. Remember, we have to wait for upgrade cameras to come in first so there is a lull before the storm.

Thank you Red team for all of your hard work! I know this question gets asked often but are you guys on track to ship the Scarlet-W V mount Base I/O by March? Just need to get my finances in order so I can predict when I make the payment. You guys are on fire!
 
One question Brent, or anyone at Red for that matter... how can we get in line for things such as the LCD screen or the v-mount module when waiting for our upgrade and credit to avoid waiting months for these things due to demand?
Or do we need to wait until the credit is actually applied to get in line?

im not at red, but i know from experience and my bomb squad rep that you just have to preorder those things immediately. its the only way. no cuts!
ive preordered everything immediately upon availability on the website.

I do have a question about the order of upgrades. I feel like somewhere I read that you all are doing all the Epic-M to WMg, then the Epic-X to WMg, then Scarlet Dragon to WMg, is that correct? Would someone who has an Epic-M and placed an upgrade order in October have their camera called up before someone who has an Epic-X and placed their upgrade order on April 13th? Trying to get a sense if I am going to be waiting out all the Epic-M's that decided to upgrade or if it is first come first serve for the upgrade.

Yes, process by type of camera you are turning in within an upgrade group. You don't need to "wait for them to decide". We move on to next group once that current group is all notified, not when they are all upgraded. Or else, one straggler would hold up the whole queue after them...

But the upgrade groups are by camera types, not by order date, correct? So all the Epic-M's will be notified before any Epic-X's, correct?

Correct. Meaning, we are fulfilling by camera type, but within that category, it is by order date as secondary sort.

If one ordered during the "keep accessory credit"-"lower price adjustment" week, when might we expect the MG email? I recon everyone between NAB and that period is before?

I'm sure we are down the line a bit. And by a bit, I mean a lot.
Wouldn't someone ordering today, but with an Epic M, get an email before us?
 
I just received my epic-x to woven weapon upgrade, so they must be really cranking out the camera's now. I was thinking I wouldn't be using top handle and the XL module, but I'm finding I really like the placement of the top handle and the XL module is on the rig all the time as a "power conditioner" [ for either AC power or allow hot pluggable gold mount batteries that are powering XL module on the side connector ]. I just love the sidewinder. Though initially I didn't like the "weapon" name, I do now think it's appropriate now that I've seen how all the pieces come together. I also think people that are ordering the raven and scarlet-w are in for a major treat, it's one of those "sum of the parts" things were everything has come together and created something exceptional. The weapon footage kind of reminds me of the creaminess of the monochrome epic footage but with color(I didn't have that feeling on the dragon epic).

Funny you are mentioning that, because when we upgraded from Epic X to the Epic dragon this is exactly what I did noticed, the creaminess, and this is what I liked about the dragon 6K sensor.
Anyway I don't want to enter into a dick contest. ;)

It would be nice to compare with stills the creaminess MX vs Dragon using same plate.
 
My friend has an MX so I might be able to do some tests with a couple of portraits or something over the next two or three weeks.

Whenever I boot up his MX I'm like "damn, that still looks really good."
