  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Is Helium the next sensor after Dragon?

I've heard it before with RED's 'Upgrade Cycle'... Body---->Sensor---->Body---->Sensor

So did we go from "Mysterium-X---->DSMC(1)---->Dragon---->Weapon (DSMC2)---->Helium"??? (don't know the exact order, sorry!)

Is the Helium technology what we can expect to trickle down to the Scarlet and Raven eventually or does anyone think another sensor is coming after Weapon?

Is Helium just a tighter/denser (light capturing photo-sites) version of Dragon technology?

Just curious, please excuse me, if this is common knowledge and I'm just ignorant.
 
Helium is the new sensor and there will be two flavors when it comes out in October... both at the high end of our line up , in the form of Weapon Helium and Epic-W. It takes the faster internals so isn't a direct upgrade from Scarlet-W or Raven. There will however be a special price for existing customers to move to Epic-W from Scarlet-Ws, Epic Dragons, and Epic MXs.

Prices will be disclosed in Oct or sooner? We need to know how much to save up for upgrading from MgW :)

Mg can go sideways to Epic-W ( cheaper ) or upwards to Weapon Helium ( more expensive ) . Mg owners pay considerably less than the others to goto Epic-W as they only need to pay the sensor cost to goto Epic-W, which is around how much you would pay to stay at the Bentley suite in the St. Regis hotel for a single night.

lol I already heard Brent's JarRedRadar going off in the middle of typing that.

How amazing is that!?! That I can ask a question to the general users of RED-User and get an answer from the "Fire Chief" himself within the hour of my original posting.

As much as Brent's radar might be going off, the poor St. Regis hotel is going to wonder why they are getting so many inquires for one night in the Bentley suite. :)

Why RED is so differentiated from every other tech company, let alone camera or cinema camera company. You guys are so cool.

Speaking of Ranger 1.0, those Michael Bay style handles would be a killer accessory option, as would the white color scheme! I do a lot of shooting in super hot locales, so have thought quite a bit about heat management / heat reduction. But even if I were just shooting in Kamchatka in winter, I would still absolutely love the stormtrooper look, perhaps even more so :) Here's to wishing the Bay style handles and stormtrooper body style can find their way into my hands as a Helium Weapon owner/op one day soon

Yes sir! I will be at RSH at whatever entrance at whatever time you want me there! I was just there today picking up a RED Station Redmag 1.8 Reader" (MINI) today from Britt at the RED Store! I can come back for sure!

I feel like I've seen that number before!! ;-) For what it's worth, they can keep the Bentley! Thanks for always keeping it interesting Jarred! Safe travels.
 
Jarred, does moving from Epic-MX to Epic-W involve a trade in? Or do you get to keep your dsmc1 body?

Same question for Scarlet-W...

...and... Is Epic-W 8k?

Different answers. For the first one, Google this:

" Is it too big? Gross? Expensive? Do you have to boil it? "
 
I've been having lots of chats with folks who are aiming at 8K via Helium or Dragon. There's lots of conversations about how they will be different after the obvious pixel size/sensor size difference.

To me there's no right or wrong answer as these represent two different format sizes, but even that seems to induce a bit of confusion when making the decision.
