Introducing the shoot35 CINEfocus r3 Follow Focus & 10% Off Offer!

Hi Guys,

We currently only have a limited number of CINEfocus r3 Follow Focus units left in stock and the current despatch date is 1 to 2 Business Days. We will have more parts arriving soon but depending upon how the current stock goes despatch dates may increase.

Just thought I would give a heads up!

P.S. Ben, those pictures look great!

Just got ours in the mail today -- absolutely outstanding. Build quality is top notch. Will post a full review later this week after I get a chance to use it on set.

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to let folks know you can see the CINEfocus r3 Follow Focus at BVE on the Hire A Camera stand between the 25th - 27th February 2014.

Hello All,

I was curious to hear some first-hand reviews from people who own / have used the R3. Looking for a new follow focus, and the R3 has everything I'm looking for. I've heard the build quality is very nice. How about the actual mechanics of it? Does it have any play in it?

I've now been using mine for a month and it is perfect. I've also bought the 19mm adapter from Shoot35 too so I can use it on all sorts of setups. Genuinely zero backlash so far and enough torque to drive some of the stiffer old lenses in my arsenal. I've been updating my contax Zeiss set with some better delrin gears and the R3 is playing very nicely with those.

In all seriousness I don't think there's a follow focus under £1,000 that comes close. Pricewise, its closest competitors - the Redrock and the Tilta - are not really in the same ballpark.

Haven't heard anything bad about the last version of Redrock and Tilta follow focus..?
This shoot35 is an incredible price but the tilta and movcam offer different swing arm ratios
and different sized gears.

I think going forward I'd love to see different sized gears become available. When I had my R2 they actually got me a 2nd custom-made larger gear for that for something like £30 if I recall correctly.

I must confess I've not used the Movcam but I've used the Tilta loads and it really starts to get a bit loose a bit quickly. None of that direct positive feel you get with a FF-4 or similar. The R3 has that.

The Redrock reminds me of the R2 Shoot35 follow focus. A decent solid no nonsense good value unit. The R3 is, to my mind, a different proposition altogether. I'd take this over the Arri MFF-1 I hired at the start of the year - no question.

Obviously that might just be the units of their I have used, but I found the same with their rigs too. All very nice and very nice for the money, but every nut and bolt needs tightening every other week.

Thanks for the time to write a review Ben... it's greatly appreciated. And you hit on the points that I was looking for, namely torque and backlash. I'm going to be getting a set of Leicas back from being modded, and the focus, while beautifully smooth, also requires a firmer touch than the Nikons I currently have. And since I'm currently using the Redrock follow focus, it was great to hear a side by side comparison.

Thanks again for the reply.

No worries. I'm not one to gush over products non stop but the R3 nails everything I'd like it to do.

Will hopefully get the right hand side unit in a few weeks and will report back on that.

Anyone order from this place recently? I just placed an order a couple days ago. Received an email confirming shipping but tracking number was blank. Went to their website and tried emailing them and their email bounced back. Did I make a mistake?

Did you order from Shoot35 directly? I received the FF from them a month or so ago. I had to pay about $40 in customs at UPS -- first time for that.

Well I was not expecting customs charges so that is going to suck.

I ordered it directly online at shoot35.com. Got the email immediately the next day which said shipped and your tracking number is: [blank]

What is more troubling to me is why I can not reach them via email.

bounced back twice:
