  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Introducing the shoot35 CINEfocus r3 Follow Focus & 10% Off Offer!

Yeah, I may wait for a US reseller if that ever happens. I have the Matte box and I love it, but I bought second hand from a RedUser so I didn't have to pay that stuff.

When I bought the R2 I didn't pay customs, shipped to NY. It was actually cheaper than buying it in Europe because of the 20% VAT.

had the R2 and loved it as well. Is there a special code we have to put in before ordering? I can't really see the discount

Wayne, I just tried to order something and I received the following message.

As some of you might know I was fortunate enough to win the Facebook giveaway competition so my order was refunded and I was sent out a unit, which arrived this morning.

It's a thing of beauty and very very well made. The last follow focus I used was an Arri MFF 1 and putting the fact that the Arri is more than twice the price, this is a simply a better and more solid unit. Of the Follow Focus units in its price range I've only used the Tilta which I had used and had on order until I knew this was coming. So pleased I did. Out of the box there was absolutely zero backlash and there's a strong positive feel to the handle and gear. It also fits my super cheap speed crank too. Lots of nice little touches like the rubber stoppers on the hard stops and the little screw-in holes where they can reside when you're not using them. The ergonomically shaped tightening arm for the gear is very pretty too.

It's certainly larger and heavier than the R2 unit as befits something possibly intended for more than just DSLR lens use but it feels like it would survive armageddon. One of the most important things for me - and I had no idea if it would work or not - is that I use a lot of Contax Zeiss glass and as they are so tiny a lot of the times the focus ring is so close to the camera body (well, the 15mm rod holders on my WC baseplate) that it's impossible to have a follow focus fit in that space unless you have the gear reversed and have it focusing the wrong/Nikon way. So far of the tiny lenses I've only tested it on the 50mm f1.7 and it's close but the R3 Cinefocus can hit the gear on that focus ring and operate in the correct direction. Yey!

Photos to follow and a proper test will take place once I get my DSLR back at the weekend.

And obviously re the competition win, Wayne you're a legend and thanks once again! :)

Hi Ben,

Thank you for posting your first impression of the CINEfocus r3 and we are glad you really like the unit. There should be more units landing in peoples hand over the next week so I am sure more feedback and images will be coming soon.

We will also be soon posting a link to a review which is currently being carried out by Paul Joy for his Blog.

Hi Steve,

I have sent you an email about the order problem.

Nice. Also saves me making one :)

Some stills. Apologies I didn't have time to make super pretty ones this weekend. My planned shoot was cancelled due to weather and I was stuck inside and then forced to start decorating. And yes, as you can all see, next on the shopping list is a decent mattebox!

Ben will it work with short lenses like the 85 CZ Contax and WC 15mm at the front?

My 85mm is with a friend at the moment but my thinking is that if it will hit the 50 1.7 it will hit just about anything. That said the WC 15mm riser really sticks out quite a bit. Far more than it needs to. I replaced the knobs on them because they were massive. Now actively looking to find something with a shorter depth - hopefully that movcam one with the arri dovetail rail built-in.

Funny I thought the 85 (F2.8) was shorter than the 50.
So on the pictures of your set up it is the WC 15mm at the front?
This FF is sexy for the price thought.
