  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I know Phil has special status but I thought they were going to get through the S -W upgrades first before upgrading epic dragons.

Its a Weapon Dragon, and I assume its an upgrade to Weapon Helium, not Epic W. Results should be the same at same frame rates and compression rates, so I assume that's what Phil will test.
 
Makes sense. Either way, I'm happy for everyone to get their cameras!

Yes... Epic D to Epic W seems slow, I received the proforma on Oct,12 from RED Europe but I'm still waiting for allocation.

He's upgrading from Weapon Forged CF which (I think) has been on queue for VV (before now) and he's just simply switching and Jarred had mentioned they go before everyone else (or at least very early), then coupled with the fact that you never know how early he pulled the trigger. Phil, Chris and a few others have a classic first adopter status and that comes with a hefty price tag and bounties

I've been on Weapon since last year, as Abiodun mentioned, Forged CF. DSMC2 or bust really at this point. The improvements are very much there, but most know that now.


Side note. Picked up some stuff at the RED Store Hollywood today. They appear to have BOTH Epic-W 8K S35 and Weapon 8K S35 cameras in stock. That's the 100% fastest way to get one this time around. RED's done that pretty nicely this time around, which is a bit unique.

Upgrades take time. There is a queue, then there's camera QC before anything can "happen", I'll skip over the chaos that can occur via allocation and payment related things, if there's anything that needs to be repaired that needs to be worked out and payed for, then there's the upgrade and QC process from there. RED's got this more or less down to 7-10 business days at this point, which is very good. For people abroad, shipping times play a factor as well. But what you get with upgrading, as everybody knows this month for sure, are pretty compelling offers to help keep you moving up to modern technologies or upgrading from your current camera when that time comes. This is becoming a bigger and bigger deal for me honestly because the industry is so damn dynamic right now and purchasing new cameras all the time would be difficult.

My best advice, much like other long time shooters have said, if you're in for the upgrade queue up and get that cash set aside. Jarred has a very sneaky way of letting us know usually 2-4 months before something is incoming. Even now there's lingering hints of things on the horizon for DSMC2 shooters, just no firm details.


The other thing I feel I need to say as I'm connected via the internet with a lot of communities and shooters. I've seen a literal army of Epic-Ws ship now. Also, I've seen pretty much daily a new Scarlet-W pop up. Things seem to be trucking at this point.
 
I'm still blown away EPIC DRAGON/SCARLET-W were able to slip into upgrade path this time around. the big dogs who have had their deposit for VV SHOULD get their sensors first.. makes sence. Will wait for the allocation patiently =)
