  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Internal ND for Raven by KipperTie

i dont really get that either since we used to screw on 40.5 filters to rear elements that never seemed to change anything, but if he says it does then it does.

Hey John,

So it's an optical phenomenon, not a physical thing? The glass changes how the light hits the sensor, rather than changing the physical distance between lens and sensor?

John knows this better than me but yes as I understand all glass has a breaking index basically if light hits it on an angle it does not go straight trough but change direction slightly. So basically adding glass between the lens and the sensor change the field of view and focus point the thicker the glas the more of a change. then different kind of glas has different breaking indexes. Like expansive glasses and lenses normally use glass that has very high index so the elements can be made thinner.

Björn's right, this has to do with the refractive index of the glass layer we're inserting.

To cut a long story short, we 'should' adjust backfocus. With Canon glass the accuracy of marks is low however, so its often imperceptible due to the very thin glass we use. Our self adhesive shim fixes it for perfectionists.

And as far as any other issues go with inserting another layer of glass behind the sensor - yes there are potential effects on other imaging aspects such as coma, MTF etc. In the real world we're not actually seeing anything happen, and as a solution Arri have been doing the same thing for years on Alexa, and as Jordan mentions many people have added rear glass for years.

All things considered, I feel rear-of-lens is a very usable practical option for Raven given its likely uses.

We will indeed be producing a set of six proper swappable OLPFs using our colour science, for DSMC2.

Price point is probably around $2000 for the set. Just finalising a few things.

Big news. Production is now confirmed!

One week into pre-order and we’re nearly half filled on the allocation. Due to the great response so far we have already started manufacturing, as we anticipate filling the pre-order without any trouble.

We will leave pre-order open however for another two weeks, (or until it's full), so more of you can benefit from the reduced price. Everybody who ordered up to and including today will be sent an additional discount voucher for future purchases, as a thank you for stepping up on trust.

Thank you to all those who stepped in before we even confirmed the product! Anyone who was on the fence had better jump now if they want to grab that preorder price ;)

Do these fit weapon? Or just Raven?

This is Raven only. Designed to retro-fit the non-interchangeable camera with a swappable system.

If you want the same ND set for S-35 size DSMC2, watch out over the next week for another announcement.

We actually started manufacturing already Jordan, as the response has been good.

Last few slots remain at the preorder price now.

ah sweet! i think i was one of the first to preorder too :)
half my life has been spent on figuring out different step up rings and filter sizes and custom fronts, so this is a huge blessing!

Boom. Just ordered three! Best hurry fellas :)

Final retail is likely to be $795

If we make any savings once we're further underway we'll pass them on.
Hey John, if you don't mind me asking and if this isn't dumb, in the demo video it looks like the ND will make the lens much closer. Does that little plastic circle ring you put on really give it enough distance between lens and sensor?
