  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Internal ND for Raven by KipperTie

Awesome. As someone who can't immediately afford a decent mattebox/filter kit after everything else I've spent to get my Raven up and running, this would be a killer option.
 
I'll definitely be pre-ordering one of these. Elegant solution, I spend most days shooting outdoors so minimal changing of the ND throughout the day so this is perfect.
 
Nice job. That pick-up tool is cool too.
 
John, is this aimed more at the owner/operator types(I assume this is Raven's main market)? I wonder how this would be in a fast paced AC world. Do you foresee any issues with lots of swaps? When the ND isn't needed, you'd have to remove the shim. Is the shim resistant to dirt accumulation, anything that might cause problems if it's on and off the camera a lot?

Cool concept btw!

I guess a clear glas could be handy instead of removing the chim. Or, possibly those chims are not the expansive part of the puzzle, so maybe a whole stack of them could be included in the 600USD kit.
 
I think the real advantage of this system will be when it hits Weapon and Scarlet-W, and you can pop in/out ND's as easily as OLPFs currently.

I have to say I can't imagine using this system as my go to ND solution but It could be super handy as a Base ND. If I had an exterior shoot day I would say fit the ND9 or ND 1.2 in the morning and then use on the front of the lens milder ND filters to finesse my stop. Still a lot quicker to change a filter on the front than internally. Alternatively a Variable ND could work well on the front as these seem to work well when you don't have to push them hard.

Yes - via much easier/less complicated swappable OLPFS. John only made it insertable this way due to Raven's locked OLPF config.

exactly what i do with arri's internals, usually putting in a 1.2 or 2.1 and the finessing with an nd3 or nd6 in the mattebox.

I have to agree, ... I LOVE, LOVE LOVE super wide angle and to be able to put ND's behind super wide glass
would be VERY, .. well, .. i'd be awesome !!!!!
