  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

2K is 16:9, 4K 16:9 (instead of 2:1) will be very soon. We're doing some integration work for that

I am in Ghana, West Africa. A lot of foreign crew come to film TV commercials, documentaries, etc., on celluloid. I have been telling them about RED and showing them RED footage taken off this forum.

Before I show them the footage they are totally against the idea of RED. After I show them the footage- let's just say that their brains don't want to believe what their eyes are seeing.

Lots of good news on several different fronts today!
I have a feeling that as time goes by it is just going to make it that much more difficult to wait for our reservation number to come up. But I'm not complaining, keep em coming!

Working 2k is great, indeed. And the variable frame rate makes it even more interesting. Most probably windowed 2k, right?
Well, as a broadcaster most probably I would use 2k as the aquisition format for 1080/720 HDTV. Makes more sense for editing and due to the limited space on the memory cards. BUT: Please, make it 2k scaled! With 2k windowed I would loose all the nice wide angle shots the RED 18 mm lens can produce. Loosing wide angle due to windowed 2k only would significantly lower the value of RED ONE for me. Hope we agree concerning this...

Nice to see you here in the forum.

I second roland's idea. Right now there are not many options for big wideangle shots with the red lenses so far. Making the 2k slowmo shooting windowed makes it even harder to stay wideangled.
Think about the crazy ranged lenses you have with the b4 mount. From very wide to a strong tele in just one lens. And it's around T2.

It would be nice if we could get that kinda range with just one Red lens.
So 2k scaled would be great. That would help.

As far as I know, the Mysterium sensor can only do a maximum of 60fps scanning the whole (4K) area. I remember hearing that scaled 2K would be an option, but it won't get anywhere near the frame rates of windowed 2K. It may even be less than 60fps depending on the camera's processing capabilities...

Definitely a smart move to get him in the program. As soon as I heard Graeme was on the team I was sold.

I'm hoping the magic focus assist will help a complete newbie, like myself, get the shot in focus without too much trouble.

I second that. And the fact that the company would have some money behind it to see it through. So far, it's all worked out really nicely.

G is a big reason I am in! He graciously has come to Toronto to speak at the FCP group a few times, has what seems like limitless knowledge about anything pixel related and beyond that he is a loving father and polite gentleman.

I am continually surprised at what he can accomplish. Way to go Graeme!

Hey Roland,

2K scaled RAW was on Jim Jannard's list of formats under developement. 1080p RGB is also on the list and will also pull from the whole sensor. These formats will always be limited to 60fps because that is the limit of the sensor (rather than the compression firmware which may be optimized over time).

We won't post (or allow anyone else to post) a grab of the MagicFA until it is done. It works but the UI is not completed.
