  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Inexpensive gadgets and accessories you can't do without.

I'm sure everyone is using something like this already, but for a quick setup we use these Novoflex plates for LCD monitors and Proxy recorders (SD Pix240 and Samurai Blade)

I think they are cheap/good value for the quality, link below:

great way to pack your bulbs for your lights :) Especially traveling!!!!

For those guerrilla run and gun shoots i use LowePro Lens Cases mark them with Camera Tape and put them on a belt...

LowePro Lens Cases are about $12 - $15...

i use a heavy web utility belt that quickly snaps on and off...

Gets rid of having to carry a lens case and makes switching lenses easy...

A few photos below show the lens belt in action...

My fav thread. I've gotten some great tools thanks to this thread.

I like these for carrying speed rail or rolls of gel and diffusion. They come on a couple different sizes. Great for carrying a few things that are awkward to pack for a small set up and give nice protection.

They are fishing rod tubes for travel. There are a few different sizes. Available through stores like bass pro shops or cabellas or amazon.
$50-150 ish

3D Printed Lens Gears

3D Printed Lens Gears

OK here's one. Custom lens gears for any lens for around $12 each.

Step one: Go to Tinkercad.com and design a gear with a free account using their online software.
Step two: Have the design printed by Shapeways.com and wait for it in the mail.

I've made a bunch for my Cooke Speed Panchros - the gearing fits perfectly with my FF, or makes hand-pulling much easier with those tiny barrels. Also made a bunch for my Contax set. You can design the outer diameter to be as big or small as you'd like - to save space, match industry standard, or fine-tune your FF gear speed.

These were printed in their "strong, flexible nylon" - no concerns about strength/durability, and just enough flex that with careful measuring mine hold on tight without slipping or squeezing too tightly. You could also tap them for set screws if so inclined.

So cheap! I was thinking of a $60 value. Amazing, thanks for sharing!

Once we get the diameter of the ring, you just put the same value (Inside diameter) on the CAD file ? Or something like 0.1mm less ? Thanks!

Amazing Sean. Is there any way of sharing templates so a database could be built up?

I second that. At least the diameter of lenses.

Do you know how makes these? ;) Bright Tangerine! They make them FOR Arri! Ha! Take a look inside... there's a small tag on the inside!

Humm... Seems like we can use same ties with Corrugated Plastic Cardboard to make our DIY TrekPak dividers

Yup! It's pretty easy! I made my own! I bought some... didn't like the 'length' of what they provided... so I made my own from corrugated plastic cardboard and 1/8" foam... Takes me about an hour per case! Pretty easy to do too!

Looking good Curt!

Did you buy the corrugated plastic and 1/8th foam anywhere specific (a nationwide chain, hopefully)? And I'm presuming you just used the actual TrekPak clips, right?
