  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Inexpensive gadgets and accessories you can't do without.

I'm a fan of great flashlights and my current favorite is my Surefire P3X Fury. I have the dual output version that shines at either 15 lumens for sixty hours or 1000 lumens for over two hours. There are flashlights that are brighter, but they're much larger. The Fury is a small flashlight, easy to carry in your pocket. I also have the previous version the Fury P2X which is dual also, 15/500 lumens and uses two CR123 batteries versus three for the P3X model.

The P3X is a torch that has a long reach with very even illumination. Got mine from B&H: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/998688-REG/surefire_p3x_b_bk_fury_3_x_123a.html

I prefer the Panavision Camera Assistant Bag. Made by the same manufacturer and Panavision requested some additional rather functional things. It comes with more useful dividers and a top shelf. It has become my ND Filter, Mount, Battery, Lens Care, Cable, Chart, Matte Box AKS, etc..... bag.

That Panavision bag...looks insane.

Hi Mark,

Copy that!

Thank you very much

That's good to know, so ARRI Basecamp and Panavision bag are made by the same manufacturer? Quality and functionality wise is the Panavision one better in general?

Also looks like it's only available in one size 12 x 25 x 17" / 30.5 x 63.5 x 43.2 cm.

I would very happily use that bag around our studio where I know most people - I don't think I would use it in the "wild". Makes me a target to thieves.

The PV bag would be the equivalent of the 50L.

If you look at the front you can see the main benefits. I have tools and a flashlight on one of the "tube" pockets and canned air in the other. Panavision liked the quality and had them design their version. The top shelf and additional dividers are super useful. Fairly water resistant. Back pocket is big enough for a slate too.

Now you don't have to worry about it being a target for theft.
Nick, does it still look insane ? ;) looks Kmart to me. But I like non branded stuff too !

Haha. Good to know I'm not only one thinking out of box to minimize "value" of gear bags. For our travel jobs, my crew and I use a bunch of these Kata bags. They almost look like soccer mom travel bags, but can hold tons of camera/grip gear.

hahahaha the pizza bag idea is genius :)

Something I've been looking for - but in the UK or at least EU - is some decent cookie kits like - http://gear.digitaljuice.com/products/products.asp?pid=3695 and flag/scrim kits like http://gear.digitaljuice.com/products/products.asp?pid=2042 but UK/EU based so as not to cost the earth to ship and get taxed on for what is ultimately a really simple little bunch of things.

Also still looking for UK Apple Box makers - to the point of trying to get some commissioned but it's only worth it if the guys made them in bulk so had a pre-order.

Any suggestions with either of these greatly appreciated.

Amazing thread.

This stuff is like velcro but it locks solid, no wobble and you can stick it on anything. Also there is no A and B side so anything with it will stick to anything else with it. I use it for mounting the D-Tap splitter above, or wireless transmitters, you name it, it's crazy strong.

It's called 3M Dual Lock and is available at office depot etc.
