  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Incredible...

That's right. I prefer having the modules be Scarlet size than Epic because it would be more compact and lighter.

Then nothing would fit inside the modules...

Very “nice”, keep them coming! I’m just sitting here waiting to see what will come next, whatever it is, it’s beyond my expectations. So you tell what next. But it’s looking very good.

Excellent work Jim!

So if the modules have epic size, why is there the epic adaptor behind the epic brain?
Just curious! :)

Jim, any clues what can be done with the rear CF module? Can two cards be used in a raid configuration for higher data rates, or alternatively for longer sequential recording across cards?

Because they're both being classified as DSMC units. To me comparing the 5D/7D to RED's stuff is like comparing a Bicycle to a Motorcycle. They both have two wheels, but their two different things.

perhapa a conoe to a Battleship?

Well in truth that could be in deed the Scarlet and not the Epic Brain, but thing is that the Adapter Module seems back words any ways were it should be front small to fit the Scarlet and back Large to fit the larger size of the Module and not as it is pictured in the recent posted picture, but it does says Epic Adapter and not Scarlet Adapter, so here it looks as the Modules were smaller then the Epic Brain, and there for the Epic needs an Adapter to the Modules, so much ???

Then again, why speculate so much about something we know so little :)

Jim, is the large render of the camera from 2 different angles a SCARLET or EPIC? I notice that multiple people have asked the same question. Also, is the lens a mini series or pro prime and what will the 2/3" Scarlet kit include? (Im assuming EVF or LCD, Handle, and some sort of I/O audio module)

Thanks for all that your doing with this company and keep up the good work!

Jon

Jchema, 90% of those renders are the same for both Scarlet and Epic. All of the modules and attachments are the same for both (except the size adapter module). The only difference in those brains is the Scarlet would be slightly smaller (thinner if I remember correctly). If Jim released a Scarlet and Epic render side by side I honestly don't think we could see the difference.

From the size of it that looks like a RED Pro Prime to me.

It looks like the modules are smaller then the Epic and larger then the Scarlet, half way between maybe. Just a guess though.

The double sided CF reader made me about 11 different kinds of happy.

Real nice and easy for side by side 3D rigs.

That exploded view really puts the potential for this system in perspective.
You guys are really trying to cover a lot of bases and production situations
with these options and I appreciate that. It's starting to feel more moldable than modular. Thanks.

Because its fun and we may get some tidbits.

We don't know what that is.
It could be that the modules are neither Epic and/or Scarlet size(which is highly unlikely)?
It could be some new adapter only for Epic?

Jim, what is the Epic Adapter?

Since it's RED, I'm thinking maybe there are slightly different sizes of EPIC's. If it was Canon, they would make it a few mm's off so you would have to give them more money for an adaptor. :smilielol5:

Some news or pics on any of the scarlets would be well appreciated.:smiley:

Actually, I think this Epic adapter has more to do with connection methods than with sizes. If you look at the module "explosion" picture Jim posted, you notice that the Epic adapter (as well as the REDmote) do not have to the two connection pins that the rest of the modules have. My hunch is that the Epic plate is used only when the camera is going to be built out backwards, and will this contain the necessary structure to accept the normal modules. On the other hand, when wanting to go SLR form factor, you can lose the plate, which saves on weight and bulk, and go back to only the simple module "V" hook which will accept the REDmote. Again, all speculation, but the best guess I've got right now.
Peace,

-Harry

Looking at it now, its not a Spacer that doesn't go from big to small. If its not a Scarlet Spacer or and Epic Spacer it is some sort of Epic Adapter. But what for?
