  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Incredible...

I'm curious as well, what function is the +- for?

Could be a image magnification preview switch for use in portrait (verticle framings) mode shooting - plus to get 1:1, and minus to get back to normal view. There's also a protruding finger shelf on the front of the grip, and record button on the bottom grip, both assumably for portrait style shooting use.

Then again, it could be a control rocker switch for use with the RED Electronic Lenses, which may have AF, IS, and other auto features if they stay in the final specifications.

Then again...it could be a user-assignable switch for a number of different functions...program it to control what you want/need.

No worries...it was buried in one of the sentences on that post. Its will be a way cool feature to have easy capability for portrait mode in a DSMC camera.

EDIT: Thank you for the kind words...much appreciated

I do hope that is the case. Especially if it can be tied to functions on the upcoming FF35 RED Electronic Lenses.

Definitely...that was my thinking in the 2nd paragraph of my post 541 above

I am deeply interested in the RED Electronic Lenses. If they turn out to have the size, weight, and features of what has been originally proposed on 12/3, with some added focal lengths (10:1 wide to tele please!) they will absolutely live all the time on my FF35 Scarlet, Epic X, and FF35 Epic cameras for use in the hybrid style and genres that are my core work.

Excuse me if this has been addressed elsewhere in this thread...but what will be the lens mount options on the Epic? Will there be an IMS style adapter system so we can put lenses like F-mount Nikons?

RED Team: Keep up the great work!

Subject to change of course, the 12/3 announcement mentioned mounts of RED mount, Nikon mount, Canon mount, and PL mount.

Here's a link to the 12/3 announcement on RED's web site: http://www.red.com/epic_scarlet/

Oh I know how generous Red's pricing is. I was looking for lenses for Scarlet and I hopped over to the Arri page and saw their Compact Primes and I thought "Hey this might be a good option for Scarlet, how much?" They're more expensive than the RPPs! And ten times crappier.

Well that's an unfair characterization if ever there was one. The cost per lens between the RPPs and the Zeiss Compact Primes is essentially the same (some a bit more, some a bit less), but the set is more expensive because there are more focal lengths available. The RPPs appear quite nice, but I can tell you that the Compact Primes are quite good lenses as well. And unlike any of the other new prime sets out there, the Compact Primes cover FF35, not just Super-35 or 5K.

I agree! A nice 4 lenses set at 12'200€ My problem with these lenses is more the different T stops between lenses, but covering FF35...

Steve, thanks for your input. Of course, I remember that announcement (in my mind this is what I was referring to) but I haven't read anything on this thread (or any other recent ones) corroborating this info. I was just wondering whether it had been brought up recently...
