I have no idea. I assume the grips are there to provide power without battery blocks? This would be ideal for nature shooting in the mountains, for example. But if the grip is attached insecurely to the body, you will have problems. That type of screw-on attachment for grips was designed for stills shooting, mainly handheld. As anyone who has used the 5D2 for video with a grip knows, adding a grip to a video DSLR makes the whole platform unstable when mounted on a tripod, or anything else. My only point was to make sure that attachment is as solid and robust as possible on DSMC.

Yeah, I actually kind of wondered why you were using the battery grip when watching the behind the scenes video for your timelapse stuff. I usually take mine off for tripod stuff because the wobble really bothers me.

So yeah, I second the importance of that connection being really solid.

I use the grip mainly for night timelapse, because two 5D2 batteries can keep that sucker shooting all night. Sometimes I leave it on for day shots because I am pressed to get a shot set up really fast.

Avatar DOES have CGI you'd never believe. I was at comic-con and saw the footage, it will blow you away. The online trailer looked like a cartoon. When you see Avatar in 3D you will understand.

I'm 100% sure RED will deliver something even more incredible than Avatar.

P.S. James Cameron if you read this please do not send the T-1000 to kill me.

Speaking of avatars, Jim is smoking a cigar in his. clearly symbolic of a new baby has been born (or twins). You don't celebrate like that while they are still cooking. It appears to have a scroll-wheel, a record button, and a "+/-" rocker. So I'd guess a less expensive and more compact basic grip than the full-fledged smart/battery grip.

I'm trying to teach my 5 year old daughter how to use the RED. Right now she just enjoys sticking the power and red drive cable ends into the support rod holes.

Addressing the question raised many times on the topic of affordability. I have posted a link of the foreign exchange rate of the US dollar vs. a basket of foreign currencies.

This is significant for two reasons. First anything Red buys from abroad (lens ?) will be significantly more expensive than in the past year.

Second, with the lower US dollar the Redone will be less expensive for foreigners to buy, thus increasing sales volume. At some point, higher volume should mean lower costs even in the USA.

As one of the very first customers of RED, along with my friends Mark Pedersen, Blair, Billy, Shawn, Dino, and many others, I'd like to say that RED has always priced their products at a very generous level to their customers. The performance to price ratio of RED One, and the RED lenses has been nothing short of phenomenal!

One of Jim Jannard's key traits is fairness - he consistently under-promises and over-delivers. Those of you on this thread complaining about prices of products, when they haven't even been finalized and posted, need to seriously step back two squares, re-evaluate your attitudes, and just hold on until the prices are finalized - and when they are, I guarantee you they will be at a good, fair price level.

A fiscally healthy RED company benefits us all - let's not begrudge them their just revenue. All of my friends on RED Team absolutely bust their asses 20 hours a day, seven days a week, to crank out these great products for us. We need to thank them for their efforts, and realize that they absolutely deserve to make a good living for what they do.

I own RED One serial number 0008 and two other very, very early REDs - and I couldn't be happier with RED's prices and customer service.

Please think before you post your product price worries - and realize that whatever the prices are they will be set at a more than fair level. RED has more than earned our respect - let's give it to them.

RED has always been more than fair with us...and I never see that changing...

Oh I know how generous Red's pricing is. I was looking for lenses for Scarlet and I hopped over to the Arri page and saw their Compact Primes and I thought "Hey this might be a good option for Scarlet, how much?" They're more expensive than the RPPs! And ten times crappier.

And I have had the utmost respect for Red since day one. I'm hoping this company will help me get out of this HDV, DvSLR, rut that I'm in and actually get me somewhere in this industry.

Shoot, if I had the money for a Red One I'd have bought it when my first thought about the company was "Wow, Oakley's making cameras now? Interesting..."

And I definitely know that Scarlet will be worth every penny. Shoot, the one commercial contest I rented the Red for still gets the most compliments. I'm just hoping I'll be able to afford it, thats all.
