  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Incredible...

So the included lcd on the fixed (as of latest specs) will just be one of the LCDs available to all of us?

I think so. Why would they make different (additional) one for the fixed scarlet?

I never thought of it that way but according to the announcment on RED.com the Scarlet 2/3 without a lens is 2500$. The body with the lens is 3000$ which means the lens will worth about 500$. The complete kit was supposed to be 3750$. A complete kit in my understanding would be: single CF module (something to record on), the smallest LCD (cost effective) and a batterymodule which is the red handle I guess (or do you think a batterymodule will be cheaper than the RED handle?).

So LCD + CF side module + REDhandle = 750$?
8x 2/3 zoom lens 500$?
It really seems like they care about people with small budgets! Gotta love them for that! I hope that was a part that has not been subject to change to much. Otherwise it will be a long time before I'll have a Scarlet...

Everything is a part of "subject to change...".

Battery

If you look at the "smart" handle capable of accepting a battery, it appears that there is a "door" on the grip that flips open sideways. It doesn't appear like it would need to come off the camera itself, nor would the 2nd handle on the bottom need to be removed in order to swap batteries.

You are correct Steven.

Rough idea of modules...

Note that there are two sizes of REDVOLT batteries.

More observations:

- It appears that the battery module can mix-n-match batteries... this render appears to have an XL Batt facing us, and a pair of standard batteries on the other side.

- Some of the mounting holes on the tops of the modules appear to have silver threads, while others do not. I don't think it's simply a matter of angle/perspective, as the adapter module does not have them, whereas the brain and module on either side of it do. Is this just a difference in the 3D models, or are there differences in what those holes are desgined for? Or are maybe some of them helicoiled?

- I wonder: Is there any active electronics inside the adapter at all? Or is it strictly a mechanical interface to the brain?

There are some subtle differences in the left-side renders of Jim's post #195 (with bottom handle) and #203 (without).

Most significantly, the adjustment mechanism for the EVF.

From what I can tell, the actual hardware at IBC more closely resembles the version in post #203... no red "pop out lever" nor knurled adjustment knob.

Is that the most current design?

BINGO! :party:Unless I've missed something Jarred just let something slip through the cracks there...

3.5mm audio inputs on the brain has been known for a long time... and those being audio cables has been surmised by a number of folks (yours truly included) shortly after the Gunner was first posted.

I'm guessing that it's mainly a mechanical thing, and the reason it doesn't have the studs is that it's probably going to bolt onto the brain so it can take the weight.

Right...no studs because it will bolt, but I think this thing has to have electronics. I'm guessing bolts plus the two contact points (data and power.) Otherwise everything downstream of the adapter plate wouldn't have any way to talk to the brain, right?
Peace,

-Harry

It does seem to have the connections so I think that it just provides the mechanical interface as well as having the connections to pass the data and power through. But I doubt it will have any other electronics apart from the connectors.

Right on. I think you'll be right about that.
Peace,

-Harry

That SSD module looks interesting. Is that a 2.5" OEM SSD drive stuck in there like a CF?
Can you fill it up, switch to CF, swap out SSD and switch back to SSD all while recoding?

Cliff!

Jim, is there going to be a "smaller" battery module just wide enough for the single smaller battery? Otherwise I would not see much point in having the smaller batteries... This would help with different mid-weight configurations...

:D Peter

The smaller battery also fits the handle...
