  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Incredible...

Question about the cf module(s). Sorry if this was covered and I missed it.

Looks like in the exploded view we have two different cf modules that will be available? the one on the side looks like what we've all seen in many of the renders and photos to date.

However, looks like there is one that is "stackable" along with other modules that was the dual slot one. One card per side of the module.

Just to confirm that we are seeing two different CF recording modules, and if so, are both dual slot CF, or is the one that we have traditionally seen mounted on the side of the brain a single slot module?

Thanks.

also noticed the RED Volt XL. Pretty cool.

Later,
jason

Single CF on the side... dual on the module.

I'm 99% sure that the side module is one CF card plus and LCD/EVF connection port as well as a flip out EVF mounting hole. The full size (but still pretty thin) CF module is a 2 port module, which must be built out the back just like the IO modules, battery module etc.

EDIT: Jim beat me...

Assuming RED won't come up with their own microphones (it has never been mentioned before) will there be a possibility to attach a microphon to Fixed Scarlet without addiontial hardware (other than the mic with a standard mic-holder of some sort)?

I am asking because Fixed Scarlet was announced as "shooting out of the box" but soundrecording was never mentioned :)

I think the brain is supposed to have balanced inputs, so you should be able to mount a shotgun mic on it, maybe just with an adaptor cable (and the mic holder, of course)

I understand...

Beyond the FF35 Epic and Epic X I am buying, I will also buy a FF35 DSMC Scarlet and four fixed lens Scarlets. I'm deeply interested in information on the fixed lens Scarlets. They will be the small, versatile "go everywhere with me" cameras that I use for a number of things.

Yes, in today's tech espionage climate, its very wise to control the info flow on products until you're sure the competition can't damage your rollout of those products.

There's no shame in just being able to afford a fixed lens Scarlet. In skilled hands it should be a potent tool that can generate a lot of revenue - and then you can expand your kits by buying more Scarlets and an Epic.

You have an Italian name (though you live in Rio), so surely you can identify with the western phrase "Rome wasn't built in a day" - meaning you start small with anything (in this case your production business) and build it day by day - then next thing you know it is big.

Nearly all of us started small and built our business step by step over time - even Jim did that with both Oakley and RED

Gibby, inspiring words, thanks for those.

Italian name, living in Rio with some touch of african-american is definitely a sign of globalization : ).

The jump from my 1/4" HDV camera (that made me learn a lot and even shoot two shorts) to a 2/3" 3K camera will be huge... A great improvement that will allow me to learn even more and get more and better paid gigs.

BTW your point of view about alternative style of shooting with RED cameras (no mattebox, screw-in filters, run and gun) was definitely something that made me rethink the whole approach of this new RED system I plan to buy for quite some time now.

Glad we have RED, be it $3K or $30K we get quality for the money we invest.

Pietro,

In my opinion you're definitely on the right track...

Work hard, learn all you can, practice your craft daily, and keep an open mind in how you approach equipment - and you'll get to your dreams. None of us were born knowing anything. All of us who are longtime professionals in this industry have come through the same progression you're going through. There's always dues to pay - but it is way worth it! IMO the motion media industry is the best industry on the planet to work in...

As you know, to keep mobility high, I only put on cameras what is absolutely essential to get the shots I need. I don't worry about what anyone thinks about my camera setups - I'm way beyond that. I just seek great images, with a small, mobile, cost-effective camera setup - and thus these new renders on this thread have me "way amped and stoked!" (love that California surf slang)

But people are also doing some great work with lightweight RED One setups too...to me lightness and mobility simply rocks

This will be my first setup! I will add on components as I dive deeper into cinema. I am glad I did not pick up a new Hasselblad! Oh, I'll also need the a RED Mattebox and the Birger mount for my Canon lenses.

Is this the fixed version we are seeing in this last render? Or can someone tell me what module this is with i/o on the back. Also, please tell me that there are XLR jacks somewhere on the fixed?

Can you add modules to the fixed, or is it fixed so to speak?

I must say, like all I am super thrilled at the prospect of these cameras being released SOON.

DSMCTM stands for Digital Stills and Motion Camera... and by our definition, both need to be RAW (since we made it up, we make the rules). Last time I looked, none of the DSLRs have RAW motion... so they don't qualify. Call them something else.

Thanks.

Jim

Well put! You tell them Jim. Freakin' wannabes if you ask me. There is only one true next generation camera company and that's RED. The others are just pretenders, trying to rehash old ideas to keep customers and release overpriced, outdated technology.

I want Scarlet!

XLR in puts via module.. 3.5 stereo inputs on the brain.

and the fixed will take all the modules just like everyone else in the family. The only thing fixed about the fixed is the fixed 8X lens.

Jim, does it mean You need to take the bottom handle off to change the battery?

If you look at the "smart" handle capable of accepting a battery, it appears that there is a "door" on the grip that flips open sideways. It doesn't appear like it would need to come off the camera itself, nor would the 2nd handle on the bottom need to be removed in order to swap batteries.

So the included lcd on the fixed (as of latest specs) will just be one of the LCDs available to all of us?
