  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I just saw the gyro thing in the new calibration menu of the dragon...

Yes, question is the data written into the frames? If so I think the guys at syntheyes would be super interested. Getting some sort of hint of what the camera is doing in terms of accelerations etc for a 3D tracking software would really be a big help.

+1 if that data could be tied into adobes motion blur reduction algorithm for more or less blur in post as well as actual stabilization that'd be great...

Thank you,

That Steadxp thing looks very cool,
I hope you can do the same thing with red's gyro, 6k + this would give us smooth 4k..

Has anyone successfully been able to calibrate their gyro? I have never been able to get it to work. Previously on Epic it would fail immediately, after upgrading to Dragon, as soon as I select Gyro on the calibration screen, it already says invalid calibration data at the bottom of the dialog box (before I've even selected Low/High temp).

EDIT: Disregard, I first tried to do this on Dragon when it was already warmed up, didn't get any validation message. Turned it off, waited a while to cool down, and booted back up to start with the Low temp cal. It took, and now it says "Valid Low Temp Cal @ 42C / Valid High Temp Cal @ 64 C"

Follow up question, how much do those low and high temperatures affect the gyro accuracy? Would I be better off cooling it down lower first? I'm not sure I waited long enough for the camera to cool all the way off, but it does say Valid..

Bumping this... what is the purpose and point of the gyro function if it's not even recording the metadata into the R3D files?

It is being recorded... Have a proto app to extract the data and send it to .xls and aftereffects but camera FW team is still working on the gyro data itself to make it more accurate. Hopefully this will be usable soon...
