Idea Regarding Mini-mag Trade-in Program

Terry,

I only have one thing to say and that is:

After seeing your avatar so many times, if and when, I meet you, and I truly hope to do so one day, if you are not actually a dog, I am going to have a hard time with that......... :)

Haha - even though I don't look like that, some people meet me and still do think I am a dog. ;-)

What's the ground rules if you bought a complete used Dragon package with mags, transferred ownership of the camera serial number, can you trade in those mags?

I am pretty sure, after all the discussion, that the ONLY mags that are eligible for trade-in are those that you, personally, have bought directly from RED. Additionally, it seems that they must have been purchased before a certain (fairly recent) date. The date has to do with when Jarred leaked the information that a trade-in program was in the works. (Around February, I think.)

I don't think there's a purchase date restriction. My Rep said they showed 8 eligible mags for me. Some of these were bought for my Red One... pre-Epic. So, yeah.

Chris,

There is a purchase date restriction related to a "purchased by" end date to be eligible. Mentioned that back in Post #56 in this thread.

how about we start a "trade back" program instead? everyone who sold their mags to other people seek those people out and rebuy the mags back, lets get these things back to the original owners lmfao! i bought 3 of my 8 mags used...so guys hit me up i got your back lol!

well if the market on 1.8 collapses its worth more maybe as a trade in then straight up? certainly the 64s will be... at the very least... i hit up one of the 2 people i bought off to try and hook them up just now...i mean i don't need them when i switch over

Was just looking for the SSD upgrade info - couldn't find it, so remembered this thread :)

Anyone have a direct link to RED's info - as the link above doesn't work.

Basically, I'm looking to find out how long the upgrade program is active for... I'm a bit strapped for cash but am looking to upgrade, so just wanting to find out if there's a 'use or loose by' date.

The url that got cut off was this one, I think. https://support.red.com/entries/92955288-WEAPON-NAB-2015-Information-Summary

If we send in 3 cards do we get $2,850 towards Mini REDMags? Aka is it free? Or do only get 1 credit per card for each 512 purchased? One-To-One could be interpreted as "$950 per card traded in" or "$950 per card purchased per card traded in." So I could only buy 3 cards at $1950 each not one 512GB card. Also since a REDMag 512 is $2,450 and 3x traded in cards gives me a $2,850 could I put the extra $400 towards a 240GB mini mag when it's available?

That is what my Bomb Squad Rep. wrote to me about :

'' You receive a credit of 950 Dollars ( euro price to be given on quote) on every 1.8’’MAG you trade against a MINI MAG 512GB.

This offer is only available against 512GB MINI MAGS.''

Gavin,

The way the program is set up:
1. you purchase the new 512 mini mag at the published price of $ 2450
2. send in your current full sized mag
3. RED issues a credit

So, the credit is towards future purchases in the RED store - not towards your mini-mag purchase.

As stated in the terms, it is a one-to-one deal.

The cards you send in for credit need to be originally purchased by you from RED (they have the records) and need to have been purchased from them before February 23, 2015.

Notify your Bomb Squad rep to let them know you intend to send in your old mags before buying the new.

Something I confirmed with my rep last week:
At this time, there is no formal established time limit to send in the old mags - so if you have a project (as I do) where you need both at the same time (multi-cam, some mini others not) you can make it work.
In my case, the overlap is only a couple of weeks - so it is manageable. Though remember the mantra "Everything is subject to change".

That is what my Bomb Squad Rep. wrote to me about :

To eliminate any possible confusion, the "offer only available against 512GB mini-mag" that Nicos is referring to is the purchase of new media. Each at $2450.
Sending in a 64, 128 or other size results in the same $950 credit.

Unfortunately, my understanding that you cannot purchase a 4 or 12 pack to get an additional break.
And the program does not apply to other mini-mag sizes (such as the 1TB mini-mags).

Fixed terms, but a great deal.
While I could wish for some of those other options, this is a program unlike any other I have ever heard of. That RED addressed this in the way they did is amazing.

I thought (could be wrong - but I'm sure I read something from Brent regarding this) that you could apply the $950 rebate back to the card (ie order a card then get the rebate applied to the purchase of the mini-mag), but the card would have to be sent back before the new one went out...

Maybe I misunderstood, wouldn't be the first time, LOL.

Plus, in terms of the rebate scheme, I also understood it to be a '1 hit' deal - ie, you only get the rebate once (so, for example, if you have 4 cards, you have to purchase 4 new and rebate the 4 old, in one transaction)... but you can't do 4 individual purchases.

Again, that was what I'd understood the system to be... guess I'll have to re-read everything again!
