  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I'll be the first one to notice, but the Ti PL is actually $600 cheaper than expected FYI. At least from the initial estimated price from NAB 2013.

Looks incredible. Can anyone elaborate a little bit more how we are expected to use this. Should we he have both a normal mount and this mount as well?
As I remember even at the lowest setting you would loose a bit of light.

Here is the Motion Mount guide as well
 
so when turned off / minimal ND value is used it eats 1.6 stops of light (equivalent to ND 0.48) right ?

With the dragon sensitivity that might not be a real issue, except when you want to shoot wide open at night or dark interiors... we will need to keep the standard mount handy or have a second camera with it installed :-)

Hmm? How did you calculate that? ND3 is one stop, so 1.6 stops is approximately ND5. That is a lot.

from the tech spec page (or manual) : Optical Density 0.48-1.20 (1.6-4.00 stops)
so minimal value would be ND 0.48 aka ND5 yes (and up to 1.2 aka ND12)

Edit : goes up to 8 stops (ND 2.4) in ND mode only (no motion/shutter functionality) altho going all the way up to those values may create issues if shooting wide open according to documentation
 
Must have mount, IMO. I like more natural motion blur with built-in "time filter".
 
Just had a read through the Motion Mount Manual. Really nice and concise.

Lots of options with this little guy. It's going to be interesting to see what folks enjoy using for narrative productions. Soft Shutter is going to make lovely images, but I can see switching over to Square Shutter for fast paced action that grabs each frame.

Fascinating stuff that also sort of leads to interesting implications for Dragon in particular due to the new found dynamic range.

With the ND Only Mode you get an optical range of 1.6-8 stops of density control.
With the Motion Mount enable to Soft or Square you get 1.6-4 stops of density control.

With all of that in mind and after reading the manual about possible optical artifacts (largely depends on the lens itself) at higher densities (recommends having a 1.2 ND on hand) I actually think having .3, .6, and .9 on had would be equally valuable. Especially if your are a super speed shooter.

Sounds like some experimenting for sure.

Utterly fascinating. Can't wait to dive into this.
