  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

IBC - GPU Build REDCINE-X Beta 21

does the output look any different than the old version of rcx? In other words is the image any different looking?

Les,

Output should be 100% the same vs. an older version of RCX software decode/export. Just faster. :)

Miltos: please send us a debug RCX log when that happens (email redcinex at red)

Andreas: that's been on my wish list for a long time... definitely gonna happen :)

Debayering is really fast BUT there is no image displayed when set to FULL. All other debayering settings work great.

Running the Windows version on Win7 with a Nvidia GTX285.

Miltos,

With a card as old as a GTX 285 there may be some issues. Plese go into the preferences and set Verbose Logging enabled and send us a log to redcinex at red dot com. We'll try to get you sorted out.

Hmmm it always happens. I just tried the RED PLAYER and I am getting the same result. All debayering settings work well and fast but FULL only returns a black image.

The software is still operating though as if nothing happened. Do i still send an RCX log?

Miltos,

Yes please do send a log.

Cool to hear. I use to program optimisations for 3ds Max back in the day and they way I solved this was just to have a benchmark and measure exactly how fast they could handle the data the different resolutions. Myself I mainly use RedcineX to preview our shots so I just want it to be fluid.

Wish 2
You know I like Redcine so much for viewing movies so I'm missing that I can't see our ehm poor h.264 cousins from our B and C cameras. Would be nice to be able to view all video media in Redcine even if its just previewing.

Wish 3:
Wouldn't it be cool to have a benchmark tool. Just spit out
Cpu
Graphic Card(s!)
5k, 4k, 3k, 2k playback speed.
Would make it easier for all of us to pick graphic cards.

Anyway a fantastic tool just got better!

As I delve deeper here at 3am I'm still freaking out and finding good things.

It would appear that either due to the GPU handling decompression/debayer now or maybe some other type of optimization the Post:Look:Effects are also sped up a bit.

Definitely. The build 18 Alpha we released at NAB was just a preview of the build released tonight.

Did an export benchmark of a 5k clip 1min 3 sec long.

Version 20
20:24

Version 21
5:20(!)

So this is almost an FOUR times faster on an Apple Retina with its internal Nvidia 650Go with its 384 shader cores.

I would say when these CUDA/OpenCL optimizations are going live and begins to move into the SDK of our editing programs it may be the biggest news along the Dragon. Being able to share footage and trascode easier on workstations without Rocket cards will make it so much easier for everyone to embrace Red Media.

It means that one days shooting doesn't have to take 8 hours to transcode over the night, but could be done in 2 hours over dinner.

Good. We're not the only ones seeing that kind of speedup :)

Added: OpenCL GPU acceleration
Added: SDI Monitor Output support with Blackmagic and AJA SDI cards.

Thanks for these 2 big ones.

REDCINE-X PRO Beta 21 doesn't have plugins tab for redray encoder.

Hi,
it crashes right away when I open any R3d clip on a macbook pro retina.

Update: this is what i'm getting in my log

I have a 2008 Mac Pro with a Quadro 4000 card in it. Setup a transcode to 1080p prores proxy. A 5k HD 8:1 clip (24 secs long) yielded these results for me.

Quadro 4000 disabled: 13:37
Quadro 4000 enabled: 01:13

I could not believe my eyes. WOW. I'm not very good at math but that's over 10x faster! What manner of sorcery is this?!

running on macbook pro retina

this is really fast now.

big thanks!
