  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

HYDROGEN Update July 25th.

Well, here is another tech demo another company is showing.

Takee - world's first holographic 3D smartphone

Takee is a sub brand of the Chinese manufacturer Estar and will be remembered as a creator of the world's first 3D holographic smartphone.

They are exaggerating a bit here showing floating holographic imagery in thin air which is not possible with current technology. That kind of a projection needs another medium like fog, smoke or a dense substance to visualize holography a few inches above the screen.

Also, it has been 3 years since they released this video. Somehow the masses had not shown much of an interest on this tech so far.

So, what is the difference or additional features in Jim's tech?

6. The current offer to order early will expire soon. Jump on or suffer remorse.

Jim
As I am running numbers on the XR space (silicon valley types like me classify this inside the xr space), it's just crazy how this can impact large scale customer bases. On the remorse issue, this is going to be a lot like the conversion of VCR/DVD/Streaming or album/cd/mp3/cellphone ... actually I think will be a bigger impact since it allows people to both view and measure the world. On these past massive waves a lot of people completely missed the boat, I'm really grateful that we are getting this head up from Jim. I am though having a hard time monetizing through this huge XR shift which is happening like a tsunami(initial erosion then a slow massive rush where you have to be totally ready before it hits). I am pondering a lot how I could be using my unrealized investment gains in post production using unity, for hydrogen.

Thanks for the update Jim!
Jarred, if you are reading this, I sent you an email on July 7th about an adjustment to my preorder. [Dan is taking care of this]

Ooooh, I feel giddy with all these great news!
Nicely done Jim :)

EDIT: Thanks Dan!

Love these bits and how they get dropped like bombs. Every single one is a headline already.

JJ is probably already planning holographic lens-flares... ;-)

can't wait to holophone somebody,... ;)

+1 or more do we have to buy a new version for it or can we convert our ios version?

I'm buying this primarily as a controller and display. If it needs more $$ to accomplish that I may have to reconsider. I already have a phone that can run FC. And a laptop, and an iPad.

I was told by a little birdie who is a Red employee that the Aluminum and Tungsten versions are identical in performance. Being Red though all is subject to change.

But, the one needlessly self-indulgent question that hasn't been asked: does it come in storm-trooper white?

Just wait until you see the 4-View holographic lens flares!

And the 4 point lens and camera scenario that created it...
In the meantime, would shooting with two 3d rigs (over/under) future proof a project:)?

Does a mirror reflection maintain the effect? If so could it be used in headup displays for cars? That would be cool, sat Nav direction arrows super imposed over the road ahead.

Why not bite the bullet and make a new OS from scratch?

That is one of my predictions (the others: it will be early, and it will be cheaper than advertised). OTOH, RED could make a custom version of Android which fixes all the problems of standard Android.

Ordered Aluminium day one... Jim please clarify if there is performance and functionality differences beyond cosmetic between both, and if there are, give us a path to upgrade our current order to titanium. I dont want to cancel and reload a 1500 usd charge on my card, but can do an extra 400 load on top of the previous one... pretty please?

This will definitely be my next phone even if I'm not able to pay for it at the moment due to financial difficulties. I will just have to wait for its release next year. Luckily the only iOS app I ever bought was foolcontrol so moving to Android shouldn't be too bad and I will still have the ability to control my Epic-W from the phone like I'm used to. At least I have my titanium "R" from Red One #561! You have my full support, just not my $ (yet).

at some point 4V capture requirements will be available as open spec or via NDA / dev license?

I’m hoping for the latter there – a highly streamlined / customized android. Fix a lot of the issues, but still provide the Android base platform so we have a huge library of apps and developer resources right out of the box.
