  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

HYDROGEN preorders...

Sorry guys.. trying to be transparent as possible on the side of the fence that I am responsible for. I know you keep asking the same question over and over and for Hydrogen specific questions you need to ask the Hydrogen team.

I have given you the official response from the RED CAMERA side multiple times now..

RED DSMC1 or DSMC2 cameras will not magically transmit video to Hydrogen (or any) phone.

You can use a module like from teradek etc.. but thats obviously different than what everyone here is wishing.

Thanks Jarred. That's fair enough. I'm going to assume the Hydrogen will not work as a monitor (wired or wireless), and hope to perhaps be pleasantly surprised at a later date.

How hard is it to simply answer the question of whether there will be a pogo to pogo wired monitor capability?

Either "yes it will" or "we have no plans for that at this time"?

Obviously there would have to be some minor coordination between the DSMC2 engineers and the Hydrogen engineers, but we ordered a RED Media machine Hydrogen from RED so this ping pong vagueness doesn't seem appropriate when we are asking about a specific function with the RED camera we have bought and paid for and the RED Hydrogen Media machine that we have already paid for over a year ago.

I know, you can not answer behalf of other/separate/different team (RED Hydrogen)... and you don't have to answer either. Which you may chose to.

But.

I believe REDCode RAW is a proprietary of RED Digital Cinema (May be i am wrong in naming the Company. My apologies).
If Hydrogen wants to use it... For recording Raw with cine module in future (Marques Brownlee already showed it in the First Red Hydrogen video- may be its a dummy) they should have come to you or taken permission already (In fact Jannard already talked about it).
I don't understand, why not conform or deny the information requested... I mean if you have time (Either you or Jannard or the Hydrogen team). Considering any change of plans or any business or technical challenges popped up (A business issue could be like, the Hydrogen Sales would impact RED Monitor Sales... Since some users may consider Hydrogen instead of RED 4.7" touch monitor).

My interests on Pre Ordering the RED Hydrogen were the Advertised Capabilities of Hydrogen to work with RED Cameras (RED Hydrogen Product Details still says: Under 'COMMAND CENTRAL' "It will also integrate into the RED Professional Camera Program, working together with Scarlet, Epic and Weapon as User interface and Monitor "), the Trust and Belief on the Founder of Oakley and RED Digital Cinema company who talked about Cine module that can give me a light weight camera option with RedCode RAW Capabilities.

Please acknowledge that When RED Hydrogen announcement was made we didn't know these are two different teams. No one told about that.

All i am looking for is a Legitimate and Official Information that i deserve to know. I don't want to live with false expectations. We passed more than an year in assuming the things.

By the way, you just made your 10000 Post with your previous message.
Thanks a ton for being active here on RedUsernet. This means a lot to me and the Group (Am new, but veterans here would actually know how valuable your contribution to the group is).

Thanks
Uday

both your questions have been officially answered.
the device will not be able to be used as a monitor. youre hearing it straight form the guy who develops the cameras.
and the r3d and lens question has been answered officially by jim about 8 months ago. the phone will never shoot r3d without a cinema module, and the cinema module is not even conceived yet, so it will not be in the near future.

Jarred can you confirm the pogo doesnt work?

I understand you have said "no monitor" but why cant the pogo work?

seriously? i dont even think they have a pogo cable for their current monitors.
i would say no answer at this point means no.

You are probably right that the lack of an answer probably means no, but it would be nice to get it directly from Red rather than through an outside interpreter. There still isn't an answer on the wired (pogo) possibility, just that the cameras won't "magically transmit".

snip..

Just chiming in here to provide a quick, clear answer.

As Jarred has confirmed, no traditional LCD/EVF support.

As Jarred has also confirmed, things like the Teradek Serv and more than one wired option are incoming to use it as "just a monitor".

And yes, FoolControl runs on the Hydrogen One to control your DSMC2 brains.

Guys, for all your Hydrogen related questions come on over to
H4Vuser.net

Why was my post about reaction concept removed? Jim asked about how to show off the hydrogen without showing the screen to save that first impression. I suggested getting great coverage of users reaction to that first impression. Then someone created that vision. I say can I get an Amen!

Was there a problem with that?

Great!
Then I‘ll keep my H1 order and hope these wired options will come as soon as possible. Hope these sollution can be used with other cameras as well :)

Toia’s commercial reminds me of when David Blaine ‘levitated’. I wonder if h4v will be the equivalent of realising he’s just on tip toes.

Sorry man you will need modules... on one side or the other (or both).

I don't want to go against whatever the Hydrogen marketing team is saying on their side, but I've said this many times over the last few months DSMC cameras do not magically send out wireless video to anything.

For Controlling settings etc. on the DSMC2 cameras however, Hydrogen is very capable of and already is completely functioning.

This was discussed at great length on THIS site and never corrected.

Hydrogen substitute for monitoring?

Hydrogen substitute for monitoring?

Just got my Lukilink that turns hdmi signal to USB stream so it can be viewed live on any android phone. I thought I mention it here since the video monitoring with Hydrogen is such a popular topic. $79 will get you that to any phone. Wired only, not wireless

They actually delivered? I kickedstarted that forever ago and had given up on it.

Yes it did, in the mean time you can get one just like that on eBay for $50

Walked around LA today, shooting some musicians with Monstro and Houdini, people around us were really impressed and inquisitive about the Stormtrooper/Monstro and I let them see playback on the monitor, it was like wow, cool, now granted it was not an 8k monitor, just my 5". Then I showed them the Houdini shot of the same thing and their eyeballs popped out of their heads. I have to say, I really disliked 3d theatrically, and on home screen, but in your hand on your cell it is a different story, it is very immersive and compelling. I believe that every RED shooter has to factor this into their future, when Hydrogen drops publicly, if you have 3d content from Hydrogen or better yet from RED cine cam(s), there is a vast potential audience waiting for your work.

Scott, lucky you! :)

I completely agree, I dislike 3D in theaters or on TV, but watching and capturing H4v on my Hydrogen is incredible.
I can see many people enjoying cool 3D short clips on their phones

Sandisk has quietly updated it's Extreme Pro microSD line with a 400GB card and the previously announced Extreme Plus 400GB card should be widely available soon. Either one will be ideal for the phone, if you're looking to shoot a lot of stills and footage at the highest levels of quality. Also, don't forget that Samsung has portable SSDs that you can connect to your phone to off-load/backup your media files. Paired with a high-capacity microSD card, it's the perfect solution for anyone who wants to shoot as much as possible.

Just an FYI on these microSD cards... You want the latest Type 3+ or better. 100MB/s is *TOO SLOW* So don’t skimp on the SD card... That is all.
