  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

HYDROGEN preorders...

Right capacity. Wrong card. The card you want is the Sandisk Extreme 400GB, with 160MB read speed and 90MB write speed. That card is intended for the latest and greatest phones and action cameras that shoot 4K video and will be released alongside the new models coming out over the next few months. The one you linked to is the slow-poke Ultra-series card that was intended for general storage on Android devices, with a nod towards HD video use. Put that in one of these new-fangled phones like HYDROGEN and you'll likely end up disappointed fairly quickly as the write speed is not all that great except in short bursts that can't really be sustained long-term.

Thank you. Ill wait till i can find one of those unless Red publishes stats required for SD cards indicating otherwise.

Yeah, waiting for the published stats as well.

I really like the 400gb sandisk card. It is a well worth buy!

The problem is, my current phone is limited to 225 Gb. So if it doesn't work with the RH1 to the extent required, it has no utility for me at all.

As its unlikely the price of the Ultra 400 Gb will go up, it seemed the prudent thing to cancel it till we know what kind of card will work in it. But I do appreciate your enthusiasm for it and I will get it again immediately if any device I have can use it. Hopefully the RH1.

Must save the pennies as I am certain I will want modules. All the modules within my potential means. So I have to be thoughtful about the card. Better to spend a little more on one that works rather than throw it away on one that doesn't (with the RH1).

Usually smartphone manufacturers will say up to 128gb,200gb, or 256gb on the spec sheet. However they are still capable of handling higher capacity cards. For example my note 8 says up to 256gb. But i am currently using a 400gb and it works perfectly.

You are using a 256GB card and can use a 400 or 512GB card, no problem. There is no storage limitation that you could reach on any modern Android device, other than what is physically limited by the design or connectivity. I have a 12TB HDD installed in my Android media player, a 400GB Sandisk Ultra microSD card in my Nvidia SHIELD for games and media, the same 400GB card in my Amazon Fire box for video downloads, and so on and so forth.

I'm personally holding off on buying microSD cards until we know what Speed class is needed. The Sandisk Ultra 400GB is only rated at the 10MB/s sequential write speed range (U1, Class 10). I'm thinking a V30 is going to be at least needed, but who knows. And I wonder what kind of storage needs the 2D Cinema module will use, but that's.... down the line.

That is a very helpful chart. Thanks for posting it.

Or maybe RED is coming with a token based monetary unit.

I posted the above in another thread that has gone off the rails, so I'm reposting it here as a serious suggestion for RED to consider.

But instead of mining for bitcoin etc., making it "mining" for token rewards for creating .4v content or even as a bonus for buying H-1s and related items.

The tokens could then be spent in any RED related way, be it for RED Channel (or whatever it is finally named) pay-per-view or Hydrogen hardware or apps... anything to do with Hydrogen. Or even expanded to any RED product for that matter.

Just thinking this would be a good way to further the Hydrogen by taking ad money and diverting that to "token rewards" money.

I think that's a wonderful idea...

Always love the idea of "Paying it forward" rather than being "On the take" at the outset.

Simple example also look at things like AMEX have been super successful with their rewards schemes... (perhaps a little better than frequent flyer miles etc. ).

Interesting how social media and things like youtube "Run" on the currency of "Likes" so having something that is a bit more HYDROGEN focused and tangible could be a superb idea.

Maybe also a great way to level the playing field also especially for folks that are somewhat initially "Budget sensitive".

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

So maybe you guys are right... "Token gift"... is a certain number of HYDROGEN "Tokens" that can be applied to a number of future accessories or something on Hydrogen portal/network?

In the original thread there was the parallel to Rendering tokens and so called "Digital assets" that also might be relevant to VR/AR "Worlds"? [Possibly a bit of a tangent.].

+1 that's really cool and super helpful! (Nice layout too). Very clear! :-)

In re: rendering tokens, it would be even better if the RED tokens were redeemable for currency via RED buying them back.

That would be even better... I have to admit I like things that are pragmatic and practical and in some cases tangible.

How would that be different from the idea of private 'RED_Shares "? Shares that can only be traded within the RED "Ecosystem"... I.e. not publicly traded.

Personal opinion. You sell shares to raise money. Jim seems to be o.k. in that regard.

And it is possible that the SEC would have to be involved. Sole proprietor means RED can delay the release of a product in order to upgrade it before release without having to answer to shareholders whether public or private.

Status quo.

That's a key point. That I agree with also (if the right people are at the helm, then the best decisions are made).

OT/Not OT/Tangential...

Interesting that in the past few weeks various examples of companies that use the shareholder model (voting stock/non-voting stock) have been discussed variously here on Reduser.

For my little-ship (lol) I avoided that "model" at all cost as that's a really fast way to lose your company especially if you are also the inventor of the core tech. I tried to concentrate our resources on the most important things. I think folks that start companies spend a lot of money on things that one can actually do without in the early stages... The most important thing (I believe) above technical excellence of your employees is to have a close nit core team that you can really TRust. When working with sensitive IP that's the most important thing. I've been lucky that a lot of folks that have worked on my projects have been long term network of consultants rather than always full time employees. So the number of employees may change pretty substantially from year to year. If you have the right people for that and are good at building long term relationships that works out well for everybody especially if everybody in the core team is really good at wearing at least two or three different hats. Much less taxiing as the employees/consultant you have can also do thing they want to do for several months out of the year... Like take yacht and sail all around France and Spain or go to Cuba for month etc. Over all good way to keep control of your ship and still be in charge of new developments and radically reduce costs and yet still really achieve things that are world class.

Generally I am very suspicious of any business model where the solution is always more money... Yes a lot of businesses fail due to lack of capitalization ... But also businesses that had hundreds of millions of dollars pumped into, manage to completely sink their own ship that way as the core technology is not viable nor practical or likely to adopted large scale. It's a runaway bubble that at some point there has to be a day of "reckoning"... Always been impressed by companies that didn't borrow massive of $ (one way or another)... I do get the idea of correct level of capitalization to bring things to market sooner at the appropriate initial scale with the ability to further scale (in a lower risk way).

Interesting with layers to all this as Foxconn does indeed seem to want to raise further capital by diversifying and obviously issuing shares... For Foxconn that makes a hell of a lot of sense. Terry Gou certainly seems to be a very smart guy.

Will ultimately be very interesting to see how all the big pieces fit together too, like the Foxconn_RED possible relationship.

So RED Tokens :-) ... Nice (assuming they will exist). / Good idea @H Dewey.

Implications of this statement, to me anyway, is that partnerships can moot the benefits of sole proprietorship (in re: product delays for upgrading etc.)

Good point.

In the instance of the Foxconn deal, I think Foxconn will be lead in any partnership as the press release said Foxconn is coming out with the new product.

Yeah, full faith and credit backing by RED would give it credibility, unlike someone in a garage with a computer just deciding to create an ICO (Initial Coin Offering.)

And having it accessible to being converted to other Crypto Currencies would make it attractive across all blockchain currency investors.

There are some very exciting solutions to that.

1. Create and expand separate specialized (technical and business related) divisions within RED... [Efficient communication of requirements between teams/ divisions is key].

2. Take advantage of modern manufacturing techniques (Not necessarily industry 4.0 "Buzzword" but something akin to that), that enables greater agility (like a small company, but can be implemented on a larger scale).

I think the super modern manufacturing facilities that Foxconn has planned for in Wisconson and India and elsewhere would be key to that. In other words really great last minute changes to products and be swiftly and efficiently implemented without too much disruption.

Potentially that would be the best of both worlds and RED + Foxconn can continue to pull "Rabbits " out of the hat.

My pipe dream for my own business is to have separate divisions that could operate almost independently in their own right and if need be sold off as independent entities. Although one may be putting a lot of wood behind one or two key technologies I think its also good to develop more generalized capabilities so you can keep playing the game no matter what. If the capabilities that you develop serve the products you are rolling out then at least you are killing more than two birds with one stone. In the history of business being able to Pivot and serve new markets (in some cases) is key/important ability.

[Need to do my homework on the SEC thing vs Sole proprietorship... I have known large (older ) family businesses (like 120 year old companies), that only had family owned stock that were able to run the company totally at the expense of the stockholders while paying a rather moderate/meagre dividend (shaking head).].

OOOOOOh Very nice, all the bases covered.

That's pretty wild ...
Yeah, full faith and credit backing by RED would give it credibility,

That's wild it's almost like the earliest days of banking in Venice and the introduction of promissory notes that became bank notes or beginnings of the bank of England. The bank of RED ;-)... Interesting idea to have separate economies within an ecosystem. [Need to do some slow thinking on that, very interesting.].

My 20 year old son is staying with me this week, and I'm forcing him to binge watch MR Robot... (He was pretty hooked by third episode). Excellent examination of society/fsociety and E-coin... /"Evil corp"... And who really pulls the strings... ).

Very exciting idea in terms of a RED currency / Token system that interfaces really easily between bitcoin and real $. I think that's been my frustration or hesitation with the Bitcoin "Thing" is the lack of solid connection to real currencies... Hence an isolated bubble effect that reminds me too much of the Dutch in the mid 1600's trading tulip bulbs that fetched far higher prices than their weight in gold. (In your proposal, @ H Dewey), The fact that you have a solid company that underwrites/ backs the currency with a real interface to real currency definitely has a stabilizing effect (in a good way). Or can be exchanged for RED goods/HW/SW or translated into hard $ or bitcoin/blockchain elements/entities. [Wondering what the projected model for that would be in terms of moderate increase in value for a "spectral" RED_Token ?]. Or it stays pretty stable but folks have an awesome exchange system where HYDROGEN folks put time and skills in and get something completely tangible out the other end... In a far more direct and immediate way. There's some genius thinking behind that that is definitely ahead of the curve and much more direct.

I like that idea! (Once again @ HD).

It's a great idea (gives me goose bumpies down my spine) and again possibly represents better "Design thinking" for what people need as a useful product whether a Token or something completely physical... That's really key ... (understanding "human needs" / what people would really want, if they knew something could be done). In essence it is agreat leveler and in some sense when tied to the HYDROGEN network very meritocratic in nature. In this case Talent has the capability to trump budget! That's the RED core ideal to the Nth power!

Now I have a big smile on face and starting to n6 again... (Ohhhhhh the possibilities!).

Very interesting.
