So now that Scarlet is around the corner, how will it change your lives? JUST A FUN THREAD TO ENJOY DISCUSSING YOUR EXPECTATIONS AND EXCITEMENT :grouphug:

If the Scarlet will be S35mm and has almost exactly the same functions/features as an Epic, then I can finally say I am an owner of a great digital film camera.
I have always wanted a camera that is highly professional yet easy to use and work with.

Then I can finally go and create my first feature film as well as my epic fantasy film à la "Lord of the Rings" (without the monsters and trolls) :)

the EPIC changed mine..... just saying, but I loved the skateboarding video on the Scarlet. Pretty friggin nice.

Scarlet will allow me to shoot my Independent film, The Toll House. I have been preparing since I discovered RED and heard that there will one day be a camera I can afford to own and not rent. Whether my movie is successful or not, to me it was always about the journey not the destination. I feel that everything that has happened in my life thus far has brought me to this point. A 20 year old reoccurring dream and some pretty damn tuff life experiences.

The set back financially because of my health is heartbreaking, but my resolve is set in stone. Scarlet will allow me to walk a path I need to walk, and put many lifelong ghosts to bed, it's a healing tool, a living tool and I know in my heart, once complete my life will never be the same again...Scarlet for me will change all, it means a core change.....it's really that important to me. I understand that this will make no sense to most of you, but there are many reasons why Scarlet will be my savior in many ways. Such a simple thing with unmeasurable importance...

Anyone is more than welcome to join me on the journey :)

The Scarlet will most likely be like medicine. Personal Im so tired of the low detail level of cameras like hvx200 and dslrs. With higher dynamic range I don't have to choose between the foreground and background as much. When not in controlled environment Scarlet will give more technical options like hdrx. Where I work there is no rental houses nearby so mostly I shoot on 8bit codecs which is enough for most. But 8bit is delivery quality as best in my opinion. Since I do alot of keying the 12bit redcode will give much better result with less work. Also the creative possibilities of color grading will step up to a hole new level! I love the look of REDcolor2 and REDgamma2.
Im counting the Scarlet will give some new headaches as all new gear will to the first time using it. But this is the good kind of headaches will building a proper workflow.

My cat will finally be showcased in his deserved light! Wait.. I don't have a cat.. Dohhhh! Can't wait for this wonderful image making tool..

A New Era

A New Era

I believe the Scarlet will be starting a new era for me -- for my productions, my business, and my life.

I've gone from creating stupid little YouTube videos with a $250 point-and-shoot and Windows Movie Maker; to taking my entire life's savings to purchase my first DSLR -- a Panasonic GH1 -- and seeing it pay for itself 100 fold while my business took off; now, I'm looking to sell off my GH1 fleet and kind of risk it all again to start this next big era in my production life. At the same time though, I don't really see it as a risk, as crazy as I've been told I am; I know that when more people see what this camera can do, I'll be vindicated. I'm just glad I have the most supportive wife in the world!

I really have complete confidence in what Red's doing, and I'm holding my breath for November 3rd! Prepare for Red to rock this world yet again!

It sounds like you should just buy an epic. If it had the same features and was s35 like the Epic but for the Scarlet price point why would RED sell the Epic? What don't people understand. If you want Epic features buy one. The Scarlet will not be an Epic, it may be awesome but it will have to be different to hit the price point difference. Not trying to pick you out but this seems to be common lately.

To answer the OP though. It will allow me to learn more, and reach new levels. I can't say I have a project waiting for this camera, or that it will make me the next big thing. But I think it will teach me more and give me opportunities to discover new things and adventures.

Are you planning on getting the fixed?

My first camera was an HV30 that I flip hacked with a Twoneil adapter. Shot on mini DV and edited in Sony Vegas (!) I ran into a lot of beginner's problems, but going through the process helped me learn about composing shots and shooting for the edit.

Then I ponied up for a 7D and have been learning the limitations of form factor and the importance of quality glass.

Next the Scarlet will bring with it a RAW capture format, so I'm looking forward to learning a ton about color science and lighting techniques. As camera and computer specs keep getting better, that allows me more room for experimentation and growth. I'm excited to go and play!

I'm looking forward to some creative experimental play time with a Scarlet. Shooting DSMC in ways that neither a conventional video camera nor a conventional still camera can do.

I don't expect it to change my life, but I'm pretty sure it add a lotta spice to it. I just want a more robust image and more flexibility in post—with a hell of a lot less compromises all round.

I'm not sure anymore. The more I think about it, the more I shoot, the more I lean towards the Interchangeable. If it will only come in a fixed, I'll get the fixed.

That is one thing I that I don't get why a fixed lens? it leaves it an issue.

RED should think of the Scarlet like a 7D and the EPIC like a 5DMKII. close enough, but no cigar.

Raw redcode redcolor2 and redgamma2 are the key

First I ll really be able to have fun on grading!
And i am pissed of short DOF, i want wide dof and want to be able to create many plane scene with high contrast and différent climax

I'm looking forward to whiter teeth, fresher breath, and being able to drink all day and night without any ill effects to my liver, plus that new super model girlfriend I'm going to get once I have a Scarlet.
