  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

How will Scarlet Change your Life??

My life will never be the same again. Because all the extra resolution and grading options will make my movies atleast 10 times better.
(who cares about scripts, good acting and filming techniques anyway? lol)

Hopefully I won't have to Gaffe anymore, and Just DP or start my rental company. Don't get me wrong I love gaffing but its time to move up and in NYC, you need a RED or ALEXA to drop on the table as a selling point. Luckily its here, and end of this month I have my first big budget short with HEXTALL. I'm talking 18K's and 12K's HMI big... lol

"change your life?!!!" I love your sense of humor!

Why? I think this camera can indeed change the life of its user. Any camera can, in fact, if it inspires greatness. In this case, this camera at that price range affords 16bit 4K 4:4:4 image capture. At least on the image capture department, short of an Epic or Alexa that is the top of the line, more than broadcast and theatre ready. This is a box that was never available at that price range before to a filmmaker. This camera will inspire people, will make people do fantastic, award winning films-and certainly some crap ones- but it most certainly will change someone's life. The fact that it inspires someone to do greatness in itself, independent of its specs, is a life changing moment in potential.

I really await the moment Sundance, Cannes, Toronto will be won by a Scarlet picture. And I hope the person responsible posts here!

Just like the Red One changed the life of many on this forum, I'm sure the Scarlet and the Epic will do the same. Great tools inspire creativity and the production of great works.

Great post Sergio.

I appreciate some people obviously feel the need to ground the tech-foria they witness. But seeing potential in an amazing and powerful tool as a story teller and enjoying talking about it's potential impact on you and your work, does not mean by default you must also lack regard for other critical areas of the craft. The two are not mutually exclusive.

Sure, a handful might be a bit naive, but I don't really believe there is this huge plague of aspiring film makers out there now who think all you need to do is buy this new magic machine and press the "make award winning film" button. There will always be naivety, stupidity and ego, but personally in general I'm blown away by the level of intelligence and skill that abounds in young film makers today. It's competitive, exciting and inspiring.

For me personally, it's exactly as Sergio states, RED has already inspired me to become a better film maker, as I'm working very hard because I want to be able to make sure as a new REDuser that I can get as much out of my new camera and it's image potential as I can. And yet right now, FWIW, I'm signing off to go continue working on my script.
Because let's face it, who knows if the "make award winning film" button will have been enabled in my Scarlet by the time my shoot starts?

:wink5:

Best

Lliam

I'm loving the tests and films that have started to roll with Scarlets. Good stuff!
