  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

How useful is the Redmote?

I agree with the gentleman who said "bordering on essential." My experiences have all been amazing... good range, great functionality... I only go to the touchscreen now when I have to get to menus that aren't accessible from the REDMOTE. Here's hoping they add even more access in the future.

Can you do this with Alexa?

I don't have the camera with me- it's off to the prep with an AC. The TC does not display at all. I am almost certain nothing happens when pressing remote and local- all fields stay blank. When I pull it off the camera it manages to connect and function properly. FWIW, I am not 2.0.5 beta on camera and corresponding red mote firmware.

Check the pins on the back of the camera.
It sounds like it's not seating properly on the pins.
It should go past the docked stage to "Wired".

I checked it out again. Made sure it was seated properly. It just says docked. Buttons don't do anything when I press them and there is no info displayed in the fields. My AC was able to work the REDMOTE when NOT docked during the prep but on the shoot the REDMOTE dropped the connection constantly while 2 or 3 feet from the camera. Power cycled everything but it did not solve.

Will not the App (when available) do just as much as the RedMote? There is that video from NAB on iPad that looked pretty good.

Anyone know the status on the app? Differences?

Eric, I'm having the same "docking and not connecting, but wireless is OK" issue as you were having. I'm finding little information on the issue, though. What was the outcome? Bad pin on the camera?

Thanks,
Rick

The outcome is just leave it in the case - it's really a piece of junk. I believe I sent it in and when I received it back it didn't give me that error. However, it is incredibly unreliable so I never use it. :( Your mileage may vary however. Let us know if you have any success.

Personally I like it, but the assistants hate it. So.. it stays in the case….

(No external battery! Clutter with too many buttons and options. Burnt by the unreliable one's out there). Thats the feedback I get.

Ours works great and I love it. Really. Not out of the case that often, but when it is it is mighty handy.

Ours work from many 100s of feet away - I think now they have solved manufacturing problems of first ones, or maybe we were just lucky.

Mine works fine too, mostly. I like to use it, have it always out of the case, mounted on the camera or in my hand. I would really miss it, it makes work easier, some shots where you don't have good access to the cam, or when you have to do a shot in a team. All in all, i love it. At first i didn't get much use out of it, but that changed.

Newest fw tends to hang-up on mine, just freezes, but not so often.

Oh, i want the REDMOTE PRO!!! ;)

Mine works fine as long as it stays within three inches of the camera. Except that it doesn't even always work then. Love the concept and physical design though!

Would love to have a exchangeable battery. Mine still works great, but it's always a bit frightening if you can't swap that by yourself.

My Redmote works great 98% of the time and with very good range - over 100'. I have it mounted on my right handle grip on my shoulder rig to the left just above my thumb so I can have easy access to start and stop. The thumb also can control all settings while looking at either the touchscreen or EVF. I only wish there was an attachment to mount the side handle on a handgrip. Why hasn't that been done? Seems like a relatively simple modification of an extended port. Also a hard-wire cable to the Redmote would make it more fool-proof.

Good tip Keith thanks! I work a lot with the shouder rig.
