  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Holiday Update + IPP2 Preview Build

What is the difference between Log3G10 Vs Log3G12?

There are two settings under "Look/Image" in the Beta RCX version.

Yes. And you can live grade in IPP2 with OMOD - even with Dragon sensor cameras including VistaVision.

Now that is something I would really like to chat with you about. It would be a great subject for a redsharknews article...

Thanks god...After doing some tests yesterday with an Epic-W i get really scared, the banding on skin tones and greenish highlits was just awefull. New firmware really fix the issue.

Not a fan of the overall look of IPP2 LUT on skin tones, too much magenta for my taste. (On a properly expose and WB shot)

That's not our experience with the look of IPP2 rendering - can you send me some R3D frames to show me what's going on?

Love it my Epic-W just got real ;)

recorded a Prores file (RWG and Log3C10 in camera) then applied the IPP2 preview LUT in Premiere and to my untrained eye it looks great.
For lower budget shoots Prores is just a great option to have.

And for the people with black shade Problems I had the same first time around, restarted camera and it worked flawlessly afterwards. I hope everybody can upgrade it's defiantly worth it!
I also deleted all old blackshade profiles beforehand (apart from factory map), if that makes a difference...

So well done RED team and for the Raven I totally get it, in the end of the day the other option would be to
increase production capacity and increase prices for all other cameras.

I have looked everywhere. every search every update and I cannot fine ipp2 luts anywhere for premiere pro cc 2017. I have downloaded all of the RWG_Log3G10 to REC709... with the gamma 22 also none of them are ipp2. however the new REDCINE PRO X Beta has the ipp2 installed but I can't get it to show up in premiere.
yes i have done the REDWideGamutRGB with the Log 3G10 but my luts only have the ARRI, and the Phantom luts. please direct me to the exact link to download the ipp2 luts thanks I don't want to click and read and search some more, I just want the direct link. I know how to install them in Premiere CC 2017

Hi Guys,

I got my Red Scarlet-W last week and currently getting my head around everything now.

1. To clarify, the preview LUTS can't be loaded onto the Scarlet-W, only on the helium sensors?

2. I noticed when monitoring REDWideGamutRGB / Log3G10 the Histogram won't exceed about 75%, is that just the optimal exposure for log? Or should that not be happening.

Thanks in advance,

Josh

Log encodings are containers. Depending on ISO and other gain settings you may fill that container half full, or 75% full or all the way to the top. The important thing is that it doesn't spill over in normal use. For instance if we think of the size of the container as the largest float value it can encode before clipping, Cineon is around 13.5, and Log3G10 is 184.32. It's a much bigger container, so often won't appear full in normal use, but that's good as it has room for a wide range of ISO gains to be applied and for grading.

Worked yesterday with an experienced RED shooter and technically adept DP who was intrigued by IPP2, but found the change in histogram behavior vexing. Over the years I've had several discussions about bifurcating the menus in both RCX-Pro and in camera, so one can choose either standard or advanced operation UIs. IMO, part of creating two distinct operational environments would include using established gamma curves, color spaces, etc to facilitate use cases where the RED is treated more like a traditional video camera than a digital film replacement.

I would also suggest a "built" version of RED's modular concept that uses the Millennium DXL as an example of what can be done with a purpose designed build - albeit at a much lower price point. I've suggested on numerous occasions that a "shell" capable of hosting a DSMC2 brain with power/XLR audio with physical knobs/etc to provide a "standard" rentable package. Think "kitchen sink" expander module with ergonomic design. Yes, it would add significant size and weight - but with good balance/low COG/less cabling/etc it would suit a lot of situations very well.

Combine ready to roll hardware with a simple operational menu for the plethora of shooters who aren't RED savvy so more CamOps have good experiences with REDs "out of the box". For those of us looking to explore what can be created by really digging deep, that door would still be open. It feels like the tech has matured enough to support such a move.

Full IPP2 (rather than the preview) scales the histogram to "make sense" when shooting log.

Exactly what both of us expected. Beta world. Not looking to throw RED, or you, under the bus for a clearly labeled in development firmware that incorporates major changes. Really excited about full IPP2 implementation, especially on my Helium equipped Carbon Weapon which has the higher spec boards that should enable live grading workflows that previously required outboard hardware.

What I'm advocating for is a version of the firmware and menus that offers two distinct modes of operational convenience and control. Part of that concept, at least to me, is to provide a default histogram representation that is modeled on typical video camera/measurement device values. A DSMC2 compliant Broadcast Module (especially with SMPTE Fiber support) and a hard-line EFP friendly menu with support for remote "shading" of the live output signal could make REDs more welcome on multi-cam shows...

Yes, I realize that the release version of IPP2 will restore more "standard" histogram response without the kind of changes I'm suggesting - sorry about the thread jack.

Trying Redcine X Beta 50 on my Windows 10 Ryzen Build.

Getting Two DLL errors related to Visuall C++ libraries when trying to run the One-off beta 50.

Release build 42 works great (and is SMOKIN fast I should add... super stoked to do some more testing and optimization with this hardware)

Any suggestions?

We got some nuts things going on with files in resolve at the moment. Simply our r3d´s looks completly different in machines on sierra than Elcapitan in resolve. any clues?
