You can also encode using x265 and set the transfer function to 2084 (16 I believe) and that will put the display into HDR mode. You should also set the display master info, which includes mastering display primaries, white point and nits capability. Also set MaxFALL and MaxCLL. Basically the average and max values used in the content. Does not make much sense for static metadata though.
