  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

GTX480 WOW! - Resolve test -

debug commandos

debug commandos

thx rohit!

i will try this right now. one question before:
what does the commandos acutally mean? are there more of them and are they somewhere documented? and: what if i want my old behaviour back?

thx!

just tried it.

my performance is weaker than before. on a particular grade i was comparing i got only 25,5 fps. if i edit the second line to:
p, li { white-space: pre-wrap; } LsManager.3.GPUMapping = 1 0

i get: 34 fps

clearing all the lines from the debug: 31,5 fps

and my system says in either case with the lines or edited lines you gave:
version 7.1 - 2 gpus.

on another grade (less complicated) the performance even was a little worse with the edited lines from you.

hmmm.... any comments?

I suspect your CUDA compute is not your bottleneck at this point of time. Try adding more grades, image blurs, etc. and see if you can slow your system down!

well... its me again:
i did some silly thing:
edited the second line to: LsManager.3.GPUMapping = 1 1

which means, i guess, i told resolve to use both gtx480 for rendering with the result that now it lacks a graphic card for the general display and therefore quits unexpectedly... :(

hmmm... do i have to reinstall davinci or are those lines in the debug window saved as a setting somewhere and easy editable? i didn't find something so far...

Edit this file using TextEdit:

/Library/Preferences/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/config.dat

At the end of the file, remove all the lines following:

//Custom settings added by the user

Once you start, you can go back to Preferences/Debug, and fix the lines.

hi luigi!

is possible for you dump for me ioreg+lspci ?

well, of course it is. is it urgent? because right now i don't want to open up my comp again, after all this testing and weird problems :(
but if you insist, i can do it :)

and: the first time i start my hacky i get random kernel panics. after the second boot or so it all stays normal. so i think i am going DSDT, but i dont know exactly how to convert my pci-adresses:
pci-express x 16 #1
DevicePath = PciRoot(0x1)/Pci(0x3,0x0)/Pci(0x0,0x0)/Pci(0x0,0x0)/Pci(0x0,0x0)
pci-express x 16 #2
DevicePath = PciRoot(0x1)/Pci(0x3,0x0)/Pci(0x0,0x0)/Pci(0x2,0x0)/Pci(0x0,0x0)

the first one is an easy one: (_ADR, 0x00030000)
but the second? where to put that 2?

hmm... after reading you installing guide for the asus, i thought damn, if i did read this a month before i would have invested in the asus board and could participate from all your work easier :(
but then again, we are pioneers and thats somehow a good feeling, isn't it?

thanks in advance,
andy

Ciao andy, ANDY for dump only curiosity no problem:)
For problems with gigabyte Jose surely give you some advice.
In my old UD7 to improve performance and I have configured this way.
1 slot gtx
2 slot gtx
in the bios select boot 2 cards But my monitor is well connected
in the 1 card. result ---> my boot is black i wait login OS. only in this case Davinci use the card 2 for GPU.
if you connect the monitors in the 2 card have a boot logo ,but The Davinci performance is low.
perhaps with ud9 is different.
For adresses if you use efi iniect or you will put the card in dsdt?
is possible you make different ssdt table for device.

Ciao ANdy.
thanks
Luigi

LsManager.3.NumGPUs = 2
LsManager.3.GPUMapping = 0 1
LsManager.3.GPUMappingEnable = 1

Of course, all this is officially unsupported, but I thought you might want to try nevertheless :-)

¡¡¡¡¡THANKS ROHIT!!!!!!

I was searching this info the last 2 weeks!

Works perfectly now in my computer!. With 2 GPU I have double fps than with one. Impressive performance!

Jose.

@rohit: thank you!!! up again :)

@luigi
thanks for the info. i will try this right now, although i think the lines from rohit do exactly this, telling davinci which gpu to use... i plan to do DSDT, as in EFI right now i have to boot up my osx sometimes twice because of kernel panic. so do you know how to "convert" this address into DSDT style? what do you mean with different SSDT tables?

@jose
double fps? for real? did you write 0 1 or 0 1 at the end?

thx again

in my last release RC1 CUDA GENERATION I used the separate tables, separate tables SSDT help to separate the device and quickly correct errors or changes without using extra kext legacy in extra folder.
advise you to read up on InsanelyMac, becomes long and complicated to explain :)

Double fps with 2 cards plus one for UI. I posted a new thread for multi gpu.
0 1, it mean the cards that you want to use. I used "0 1 2" with 3 cards.

GTX 285 GUI GTX 480 GPU

Hi Jose,

What does your com.apple.boot.plist have in it?

I'm planning on running GTX 285 for GUI and GTX 480 for GPU. I have the GTX 285 working perfectly on my hackintosh, and the 480 is arriving tomorrow. Any tips?

Thanks,

I recomend you a very good guide,

http://aquamac.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=hack1&action=display&thread=509

I'm now running an Ati 5770 + 2x GTX470, and my apple.boot.plist is a little bit diferent than what you need. Remember to install the nvidia fermi driver and set the bios to start from the last graphic card that you have installed. If you install the latest nvidia driver from imac 2011, you need to reactivate cuda with this lines in the terminal... but better to update to oficial fermi nvidia driver.

to reactivate cuda in the latest nvidia fermi driver write this in the terminal
cp
/Library/Frameworks/CUDA.framework/Versions/A/Libraries/libcuda_256.01.10.dylib
/Library/Frameworks/CUDA.framework/Versions/A/Libraries/libcuda_256.02.05.dylib

saludos,

Jose.

Hi, I am a little confused. The Nvidia driver you have referenced is the one in iMac 10.6.7 update.

I found it to work for GTX470 with CUDA but Luigi V says that it "doesn't work"

The terminal commands refer to that driver and came from my friend Netkas.

BTW, if there is someone in the LA area who would like to compare GTX285 vs GTX470 vs GTX480 with Resolve, I am willing to provide the cards for testing. Would be nice to get final word on whether Fermis are genuinely faster.

Thank you.

Please can you elaborate on 'set the bios to start from the last graphic card that you have installed'?

Also, could I see your boot plist for reference?

And to confirm, what card do I plug GUI monitors to for install/boot/DaVinci?

Thanks again!

Toby

at least for me it work with netkas terminal commands. But without this commands davinci can't be started.

I did a test with gtx470 vs gtx480 with more than one graphic cards some time ago:

For the bios, if you have for example a graphic card in 16xPCIE slot3 and a second in the 8xPCIE Slot7, you must set to start the computer from 8xPCIE Slot7. If not you end with a blank screen.

I prefer to plug the gui monitor to the 8xpcie slot7 when install, and when all work perfectly you can change to the first 16xPCIE slot3...

My boot plist for only nvidia (no ati) and ex58 ud5 is: (for x58a ud3r i have other with only 64bits)

Ok. Cool. Can I use this method with my existing DSDT? Also, I'm running 64-bit (will all kexts 64-bit), can I still stay 64-bit with this?

Jose,

Is that boot.plist in your /Extra folder or your /Library/Preferences/System Configuration/ folder? I also notice you have graphics enabler turned on, I thought it needed to be off for strings to work with dual cards??

The aquama guide is good but it doesn't help so much for 2 different cards (i.e. how to combine in.plists for different cards correctly)

Also, is it possible to put this into the DSDT? That might be 'cleaner' no?

I still can't get these strings to work. Is anyone willing to help me with my plist.in for these 2 cards?

Thanks everyone,

/Extra folder.
For two diferent card you need to edit in.plist of one card and add the string for the other card.

I don't know how to modify DSDT for 2 cards.

I readed that you are running 64bit. I have a lot of KP with 64bit boot and recommend you 32bit boot.

I can send to you a in.plist with your cards, but I need the address of the 2 cards.

I have graphic enabler = yes with only nvidias. And graphic enabler = no with ati + nvidias.

saludos,

Jose.

WOOOO!

IT'S WORKING!

I used the guide (http://aquamac.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=hack1&thread=569&page=1) but I copied the <device-properties> string from the Boot.plist (in Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration) to my Boot.plist in my /Extra folder and VOILA. Both cards are recognized and both have QE/CE/Cuda.

I'm getting great performance too. The overclocked GTX 480 is pulling some weight! I'm getting realtime 2K ProRes and 2K DPX and realtime RED 4-4.5K with 1/4 Good debayer. All with a few (atleast 5 nodes) I get 16fps on Half good debayer so might spring for a hexacore i7 970 (if Davinci can utilise 12 threads and the performance increase is linear that should land me with 24fps debayer at half good). What do you guys think!!? (No I can't afford a rocket or dual-CPU system yet). No GUI glitches with the GTX 285 either.

Woo!
