  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

GTX480 WOW! - Resolve test -

One caveat, though: changing RED source settings on individual clips is still as bit tricky in Resolve, Color is doing better in that respect.

I have been looking desperately for someone who has done this. Thanks so much for sharing your info. It think it's time to build the hackintosh! What kind of playback speeds are you getting on 2k dpx frames with 2k 10bit settings in the resolve. My goal is real time stereo 2k dpx playback. I am fortunate to have access to some kick but solid state storage raids and would love add this to the mix.

like the cud performance - here the heat test maximum in one 3 slot pc:)
3 gtx 480s each blower running close to max ( 90 celsius x 3 )
now we are starting to test with osx

Why 3 cards?... i recomend at least, link together...

what about decklink 3d, external storage, firewire 800... or rocket?

Hi Darin, I will make a test in 2 weeks. Up to now, I only tested r3d and prores.
 
eheeh CIAOOO Ketch, not mine, I have the same same but without side glass with the case of an old g5, osx 10.6.5 the mainboard P6T7WS ASUS supercomputer, I must say that the system and rock solid with no kernel panic; ), now I would like to add a red rocket for transcoding;) , aquamac is leader in hackintosh ;)
It was hell to paste the Mainboard on aluminum and fit all the components ;)

I now use a gigabyte-UD7 rev2.0 with 3 evga GTX 480 cards with 24 GB DDR3 1333MHz Corsair, Coolermaster Silent Pro 900W and Corsair Gold Series Hydro H50 for the CPU i7 950 or 6 core 980.
If you want you can use the same components but with P6T7 workstation has many pcie;)with more nvidia gpu and a 6-core CPU 980;)is a powerfullllllllllll workstation about 16000-17000 geekbench, Obviously the price is much higher.I have a hd for mac os intel ssd x 25g , 5 hd wester in raid 0 with software mac os with AJA System Test fly to about 340 mb / s. for the case I can only recommend the Lian Li are made entirely of aluminum http://www.lian-li.com/v2/en/contact_us/index1.php or old G% tower ;) a configuration as I have listed here costs about 2400-2600 U.S. dollars all over .a Willg read this http://art-studios.net/catalog/12

hello!

next week i will build up my system and therefore ordered 2 zotac gtx480 cards in combination with the gigabyte-UD9 board.

my question is:
do i have to buy a third graphic card to get resolve using both gtx480 as cuda-accelerators?

if the answer is yes, could anyone recommend a cheaper gpu for that purpose?
 
Resolve will use the GPU on the card you put monitor but with half render power.
I am using two 285gtx and I get 15 nodes in Red 4K quater debayer 25fps on softraid with 4drives. So in my opinion for regular work you are overpowered.
 
new year should bring a 7 cuda gfx480 system for heating up the studio:)
sorry for the cabels, but testing is wild:)
the 3 cuda card system is running now at fanspeed 90%
temp max 70c - full render each little gpu
after stability checks finished starting to insert the rocket

I'm about to build hackintosh since my Mac Pro sucks many ways...
Intended for Resolve and, of course, RED workflow :-)
Plus DPX workflow also.

So I would like to thank you all for sharing information. I'll post my process...

hi, i wonder if anybody can give me a hint concerning the gtx480.

i tried a lot of things (gfx-string, chameleon_rc5 only, dsdt) but so far i cant get both cards working. one card is working via gfx-string and via chamelion, DSDT approach seems good, but i am lacking of infos - no dsdt file available for gtx480 right now, or, i didn'T find one!

and, only one card gives me an extremely poor performance in davinci. i cant even playback a prores444! (the quicktime player works like a charm, there i can playback normally).

how can i test my card? why cant i boot with my second gtx480 in pci-e x16 slot 2 (of 4, x58a-ud9) ?

not even the bios reacts (and yes, i changed the bios setting to boot from that port!).

so, how did you guys manage? any hints? please help a fellow hackintosher :)

it seems to work because now i have one GTX480 properly recognized. but then, why my slow performance?

and: is it normal that i cant boot from my second pci-ex16 slot? can you with your ud7? because of this i am not able to readout my correct device-path for the second gtx480 :(
