  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

GROUP BUY - Tokina Cinema Vista Lenses

Got the lenses in a couple of days ago. Waiting on a few more puzzle pieces to get everything assembled and play with them. They are really nice and well built. Thanks to Phil, Tokina (Ryan), and Duclos (Caitlin) for everything!

Great news! I hope you enjoy them :)

Olivier,

Phil posted a few on page 2-3 I think. Also, Tyler had a short of football players that he shared that was only shot on these.

I've got a shoot planned for the last weekend of this month and I'd be glad to share the images with you. Are there any specific lengths you are wanting to see? All wide open, or any specific aperture settings?

Between the EF and PL mount for these Tokina cinema glasses, which one do you guys think will have better resale value?

PL mount is more rock solid, but there're more EF mounts out there. I'm just curious which one is a better investment. Just for comparison, for used Otus lenses, the EF mounts go for higher prices than the Nikon mount counterparts. On eBay, at least.
PL, I have to imagine

I think it might be market dependent. If you are in an area that is mainly PL, then it will probably lean that way. In other places were there are lower number of PL mounts and you see more EF, it might be EF. I know this isn't a definitive answer but I think that's a hard question to answer without knowing the variables that will influence the choices in your locale.

Keep in mind, they (Tokina Vistas) have swappable mounts. I ended up going with the EF mounts because I shoot with Canon mostly. However, I will buy the PL mounts so I can swap'em out when necessary. Might be worth it for you to have both as well. Just something to think about.

Exactly. Go with what you use most. It's simply too early to know which of the newer low-mid tier lenses will retain value over time. So, making a mount purchase based on eventual resale only makes sense if you can use either mount as needed with YOUR shoots. For my work I'd go PL for RED/Arri/Varicam and probably pick up a set of EF mounts to use on lower budget shoots with canon cameras or maybe the new EVA1 once it's proven.

For the Tokina GB participants, just got word on the cases from HotRod: "The custom cases are expected to arrive in the U.S. on November 20th."

A couple of things for you Tokina Vista lense owners... the cases apparently got held up at custom's but should be on their way soon and then shipping out once received. Also, I've started a thread to post pictures so people can see what these awesome lenses can do! Please feel free to jump in and share away!

The cases sound like they'll be arriving after the holidays / New Year for most of those in the group buy who bought 4x lenses... but I have to be a sneak and mention that they're absolutely perfect and very generous. I was pleasantly surprised to find that a spot for filters was snuck into the case design. Can't wait to fill the last two port holes with more of the set, especially once a longer lens or two comes around. :)

Have been shooting a lot on these lately, and I'm so happy for this group buy. I feel like these have been one of the most important investments in my art to date. Might post some stills at some point soon.

(Don't mind the low res photos, seems like JPG attachments have some pretty low storage requirements.

Anthony,

Awesome, thanks for sharing!!! They look great and I'm pretty stoked to find out that they have space for filters. Hell yeah!

I'm looking forward to seeing some of your stills. Please feel free to share.

Quick update to say that we received our case this week. Really sturdy and fits the lenses like a glove. Now to fill the empty spaces...

Mine came in just before I left the office last week. Lenses fit like a glove (minus the macro, obviously). Quite happy with the protection it offers!
