GROUP BUY - Tokina Cinema Vista Lenses

Hello,

Do you know if the 18mm is already available or not yet?

Thanks

I've not gotten any notifications or seen any updates. That being said, if I had to guess, I'm sure it will be "released" here soon! :)

Dan,

Thanks for the link. Was really cool to hear about the design behind these lenses.

Any word on 18mm PL availability?

They have been coming in in batches. Mine was on the shipment of the first 10. If you purchased from a place like Duclos give them a ring and get on a list, they seem to be going fast. I know the first two shipments were gone in 60 seconds.

Preordered and paid since 4 Jan.

From Duclos or? I'd give them a ring either way and see where you're at. I think they had 1-3 in there recently that were for pre-orders, last time I visited that is.

From Duclos. I just pinged them. They haven't got their Feb batch yet, but expecting soon.

My 18mm is now on its way. I'll bet others who ordered are now receiving theirs as well.

Looking forward to more info about the telephoto. I sincerely hope it's at least 120mm!!

Yep.

Full line up now is 18, 25, 35, 50, 85, 105.

I imagine at least a couple more incoming.

Happy to see the 11-20 announcement. Sad to see comments that "135mm T1.5 was 'too hard' to design". Here's an example of a FF 135mm f1.4 lens with an expected price of less than $3000:

Maybe Tokina should look at their math? On their website they say:

Would be a shame to see the series top out at 105, which on Monstro is just a hair more than a 75mm equivalent on Helium S35. I.e., not very telephoto.

It seems like it may just be more realistic in keeping with the rest of the Tokina VVs. We have no idea what the breathing or image is like on the Zy-Mitacon but we know that the Tokina line is just about CA and breathing free. Also, the Zy lens in the link has a CF of 1.6 meters. The 105 Tokina looks like it goes down to at least CF 3' 6" based on the pictures online so far.

I was told a 40 and 65mm will be coming next. I asked about a 135mm and there were nervous chuckles all round about whether it could be a T1.5. Then someone senior leant in and said "125mm". Not sure what to make of that considering the new 105 would be so close in FL.

Phil - saw you there with a badass Tokina baseball cap. Was gonna ask where to get one ... but didn't want to disturb your chat. Thanks for championing these lenses. They're definitely on my wish list.

Below: 105mm T1.5, full frame, shipping Q4 2018

Below: 11-20mm T2.9, S35mm image circle, didn't see an iota of breathing, very rectilinear, shipping end of Q3 2018

I could see getting a 125mm to extend my range past 85mm. The 105mm doesn't offer much I can't already do by just punching in digitally a tiny amount.

For some. An it really depends on how important certain focal lengths/FOVs are to you. For me a basic set on VistaVision would be the 35, 50, and 85mm. However.....

http://phfx.com/tools/formatCompare/formatCompare.cgi?formatOne_typeTech=RED%7CMonstro+8K+VV&formatOne_format=8K+FF&formatTwo_typeTech=Kodak%7CFilm&formatTwo_format=Super+35mm+4-Perf&focalLengths=18%2C25%2C35%2C50%2C85%2C105,125

The 105mm slides in producing a nearly a 65mm FOV on Super 35mm, which is a focal length some DPs truly live or die by for closeups and medium closeups.

The same could be said for the rumored 125mm as it lands in the near 75mm FOV in relationship to S35.

Outside of some intermediate focal lengths from here I'd like to see 125, 165, and eventually a 220mm. And maybe a Tokina flavored 300mm. I don't expect anything beyond 125mm to be T1.5 however. We'd be talking pretty chunky lenses.
