  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Group Buy - Formatt-Hitech Firecrest ND Filters

Fresh update. Up to 35 GB participants. I have a couple boxes of filters I'll be testing likely this week or next. Just need to arrange a day that makes sense to shoot it between a few things.

1x Linear Polarizer: 4x5.65"

Also, I am considering buying just 1 horizontal grad ND. but not sure which strength I should get. Going for typical darkening of the sky during mid day sunny shoots. Which strength would you go with if you had to chose only one. Thoughts anyone?

If you can only afford one ND grad, I would go with ND 0.9. 0.3 is not worth the trouble, 0.6 is useful, but usually not enough. 1.2 can be too much unless you're shooting into the sun. Also consider using a Pola if you just want darker blue skies in mid-day scenarios.

is it like a 1/4 LowCon from Tiffen?

A low con 1 i believe is like a low con 1 from tiffen.
personally a 1/4 and 1/2 too weak in my opinion to worth owning especially because the dragonsensors have such a wide dynamic range. you can select during grading.

My personal experience when needing low con filters were in the beaches near the equator and need to expose both beach sand, sky and people as well.
In those cases it's always been low contrast 2,3,4.
it looks like they only do 1,2,3 so im going for 2,3.
 
Is there any possibility of those of us who have already committed placing our orders before June 1? I've got a couple big shoots coming up and would love to have these on hand, rather than having to rent another set...

I've reached out to Formatt regarding early fulfillment. Since we hit our maximum tier so quickly they might be able to handle it. There does need to be some structure I imagine in who placed what order first, but I understand not wanting to rent a set of NDs if you can avoid it. Should know more today.

"Normally" everything would be processed after this GB ends.

Awaiting word and what's possible.

Pretty awesome that they might be willing to do early fulfillment. I own a few of their Firecrest screw-ons and I'll probably have to dive into this group buy. I had a great email correspondence with James Stamp from Formatt-Hitech when I bought my filters, and as luck would have it he was the one at the Formatt-Hitech booth at NAB this year, so it was nice meeting him in person. He mentioned that they now have more places they are fulfilling from (not just the UK, which is where mine had to be shipped from when I bought them) so that's a nice improvement to fulfillment speed.

Yep. It's looking good for early fulfillment. I'll start PM'ing or emailing you who to email in the next couple of days to get things rolling.

I also got to bump hands with James at NAB, which was nice after all this time. The big news here is that a whole lot has been going right at Formatt these days including having a stock of filters these days to fulfill orders. Which is more or less why we can likely cater to those who needs stuff quickly. Looks like the vast majority of what people are looking for here can go out shortly.
