  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Group Buy - Formatt-Hitech Firecrest ND Filters

Word of warning to possible "kit" buyers. The kits ship with a weird 3-pouch short-end-hinge concertina-style filter holder which need to be flopped open (to about 3-ft long!) to access any filters. Basically useless in the real world. I'm going to see if Formatt will send me a bunch of single pouches for the two kits I bought a few months ago.

If the price is more or less the same, I'd strongly suggest buying as singles so each filter has its own individual pouch.

The filters themselves are fabulous!

We ended up with that when ordering 12 filters from B&H. We requested and Formatt sent individual pouches at no charge. Good peeps.

M

I'll ask later today Mark, but I'm pretty sure these kits are identical to the singles in price and in pouches.

Thanks Phil, appreciate it! The listed prices for the kits (at least on B&H) are a significant saving over the individual pricing, so would be great if that's an option. I can take a full set of ten if it is, less if it isn't.

Put me down for these 4-5.6" ND kits

The 0.3, 0.6, 0.9 kit

&

The 1.2, 1.5, 1.8 kit

and the 4-5.6" Circular Polarizer,

Thank you very much Phil! Very exciting!

Hey Phil,

I'd like to add:
1x ND HORIZONTAL GRAD: .6 and .9

That's in addition to the (4x5.65": Firecrest ND .3, .6, .9, 1.2, 1.5) order I'd previously requested.

Also, does Formatt-Hitech make a 138mm Polarizer?

Thanks again!
Kyle

Any update if the screw in 77/82mm would be the same as currently listed on the first page? They are quite a bit less on B&H, or is the msrp for this group buy still in the works? Thanks for putting this on Phil.
Yes I agree though if you buy 2 or more you'll reap the savings though if you just buy one at the current price I believe BHphoto is cheaper (in USA at least) given they have free shipping.

77mm .6 = $98 on BHphoto
= $103.2 with GB after 30% and $15 shipping (should be a way to reduce shipping?)

But if you buy 2 you get savings since the shipping price is essentially spread over 2 (or more).
But it's an awesome price if you buy the larger filters though given that they are priced much higher in relation to shipping.

Very amazing you did this Phil!

Hey Phil,

I believe I may have misused my words!

Just would love 1 each of ND .3 .6 .9 1.2 1.5 1.8 in 4x5.6 size and a circular polarizer in that same size..

Let me know if there's a problem with this? It looks like others have made this same order without issue..

Thanks again Phil! Have been looking at these for ages.

Do they make 1/4 wave retarders?
I bought 1/4 wave retarders from Schneider in 77mm and 82mm screw-in, to use with the motion mount, so that I would have a circular polariser. They worked really well. I no longer have the motion mount since I am assuming it won't cover the sensor. Phil, did you get to try the Canon MM on the 8k? If I knew it would cover it, I would probably buy another MM.

I would recommend the UV 370 unless you are shooting from Everest all day
I do live within a short driving distance to Mt. Rainier. :) I have never actually used a UV filter. What clear do you recommend for protecting my lenses? A clear from your favorite / highest quality (In your opinion) manufacturer.

Hi Phil,
Please put me down for: 4x5.65 size 1x 0.3, 0.6

Phil do you know how strong a 1LowContrast from Formatt is?
is it like a 1/4 LowCon from Tiffen?

Thanks

I'll do my best to shoot a test with the Low Contrast and the Black Supermists very, very soon. Probably this coming week.

Awesome! Thanks Phil. I was going to ask about the Black Supermists, but it looks like you have us covered.

I know a guy (thats how all good stories start) that uses the Tiffen versions and always has great results. I'll be interested to see your results.

Great stuff Phil.

Put me down for a set of 6 filters at size 4x5.65" - 0.3, 0.6, 0.9, 1.2, 1.5, 1.8
