  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Group Buy: Budget CRI 95 LED Strip Lights

Yes - about 5 units. Daylight, I guess; I tend to light daylight all the time. I guess the downside of the variable is the controller cost?

Assuming the same number of LED chips, the variable version will not have as much output at the color temperature extremes compared to the units with a fixed color temperature. For example if you are at the warmest setting, the cooler LEDs will not be outputting at all.

Yes, with variable strips you must use a controller. With fixed strips you can go straight to power.

Is the variable option rated at 95 CRI across all color temperatures?

Yes, at a minimum.

Careful, LEDs don't always gel as you would expect them to due to their non-continuous spectrum. So this should be tested.

Yeah, that's true. You don't want to gel LED strip lights.

Actually, the variable strip is quite a bit brighter than the fixed strips. I'll post the lumens values later in the day today (Monday).

What frame rates have you tested these at?

24, 25, and 30fps. Going to test 60fps this week. High frame rate flicker tends to be a controller/dimmer issue. Professional quality controllers/dimmers can handle very high frame rates fine.

Hi Brandon

Guess I forgot to add 'add me' in my first post last night - LOL. Add me, don't know what config it'll be yet - it depends on dimmers etc.

In terms of batteries, what options have you found?

Just tested 60fps. No flicker at all. Works great. The LEDs are solid at high frame rates.

I laid out a couple feet of the variable LEDs (set to daylight) on the sofa and shot a quick shot of my hand at 60fps while holding the camera. This is straight out of the camera with no color adjustment. It's perfectly balanced with no weird color spike/shift. It's really the best looking LED light I've ever used. This is with the LLO OLPF.

Working on getting a person on camera today or tomorrow for some more tests so you can see how great the skin tones look. The footage I have shot already I can't post publicly right now.

Where do you get your china balls? I want to get large silk ones, like in the pics.

Oh, I found these.

The faux-silk lanterns are supposed to be nice. I have just been using the paper lanterns that came with my lantern lock kit. I'm really hoping someone builds a china ball setup specifically for use with strip lights.

American hustle? There is only one company makes hollywod quality led strips which is Litegear.
How these compare to literibbons?

If we blind tested people I don't think anyone could tell the difference between them. These are top quality.
