  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

GROUP BUY - Allsteady 7 Gimbal - $2795

I'm actually in the market for a 3 axis gimbal right now and have been looking at the ronin for quite a bit. I was about to pull the trigger when I saw this thread. Are there any real world user experiences out there yet, especially those using the Allsteady with heavier cameras such as the epic? There are quite a few features that seem really well thought out on this vs the Ronin, and quite frankly a few of the QC issues seeming to pop up with the Ronin have held me back from actually making the purchase. But I am very interested in the Allsteady, and would love to see where this goes. At this red user price, it is certainly very tempting.

Hi Stefan,

Here is another review from a few of the guys that purchase our gimbal from the original Kickstarter project. Check it out!

If you get a chance, send them a message. They are nice guys and have real world experience with our gimbal.

I was really looking at this gimbal until I saw this last video. So the only way to configure it is with a computer connecting via USB? I don't see an iOS app mentioned anywhere for setup, configuration, and control like the DJI Ronin has. Does something like that actually exist and just isn't mentioned anywhere? If not I think it's a deal-breaker as it would be much easier and more convenient to change the settings wirelessly with an iOS device.

Hi Mike,

The Alexmos board we use in the gimbal has the pins available to attach the Bluetooth unit, it's just not something we've done yet. We haven't yet had enough time to test the Bluetooth App ourselves to give it the go-ahead.

The idea with this gimbal is that you will want to designate some time before hand to prepare the gimbal. The gimbal board has 5 profiles available to customize. You could set up one camera and lens for 5 modes. Or you could set up 3 modes for one camera and 2 modes for another. The idea is that the gimbal will just be ready on the fly. When switching cameras or lenses, you won't need to tinker with an app or a computer. You can just balance the new camera, put it in the correct profile with the push button on the gimbal, and you are ready to use it.

Hope that makes sense!

Hi Andy, so I think about about to pull the trigger on the Allsteady 7, just quick questions.
I notice that you have an optional 5v / 12v regulator aux power. Is this an onboard D tap? and how to you configure this. I see that this is optional but see no way to add it to the rig pre order.

Also I noticed that the Allsteady 7 comes with the wireless controller, transmitter and receiver, in the manual it shows a diagram in how to hook up the receiver. is this receiver not already installed when the unit is shipped. It also says that the warranty is void if installed without a qualified technician, does that mean I have to ship it back to you to get it installed?

Hey Everyone,

I've been chatting with Andy about the group buy and I'm trying to work out a better price for the unit. I think for the price, you will be getting a great deal but I want to get the best deal possible for all of us. I'll have more info probably on monday but I wanted you to know what was going on behind the scenes. Wish me luck on the negotiation!

I can't find any confirmation that a 24-70 (or like sized lens) on an Epic w/ AB mount Dionic 90s would give enough clearance on a Ronin or Allsteady. It would be nice to not have to reconfigure your camera by taking off the side handle and mounting a cheese plate + adapter to mount a battery on the side.

It's a deal breaker for me to have to rely on Redvolts or retooling my set up. I'm also not keen on having to purchase a module adapter, additional Redvolts and a Quad Battery Module (~$2800 all said and done) to have more than 20 minutes of power at a time.

Speaking of batteries, how long does the AS7 battery take to recharge? You may need 3 given the 2-4 hour advertised run time.

This package does come with the wireless control. We will install it for you before shipping and the warranty is still valid! Sorry if that is confusing.

We actually install the receiver in the hidden AUX compartment on the Allsteady. The AUX 5v / 12v regulator could also be installed for an extra charge. It actually uses a simple servo connector which, in my option, is impractical. We don't offer a D-Tap right now. I would suggest forgoing thhe AUX power at this time.

Hey Dave,

After some careful consideration, we are lowering the price for the RedUser group! We really want you guys to get these things in your hands, because we just know you will love the product! We've just received a large order of AS7 parts, and our production line is now more streamlined than ever, so we can easily afford to give you all the AS7 for a much better price.

The new price will be $2495 and I am editing the first post to reflect that.

Hi Doug,

A quick way to estimate if the camera/lens combo will fit on the Allsteady to to do a CG measurement. To do this, configure your RED as you would for use on a gimbal. Take one finger on each side and begin to slowly lift the camera off the ground from the bottom. Lightly lift and adjust your fingers forward and back until you find the center of gravity. This means that when you lift the camera doesn't immediately fall forward or backward. Next, measure the distance from the very back of the camera to the center of gravity. On the Allsteady 7 the maximum distance should be no more than 150mm.

I hope this helps!

As for the batteries, I would strongly recommend purchasing an extra battery or two for the gimbal if you plan on using it for a whole day's work on set.

Andy,

That's great news. Thank you! Now lets get others buying these things and show what I already know. Great product for an Unbelievable Price!

So, I was looking to pick up the 5 while it's on sale for my BMPCC. Unfortunately I haven't seen an Allsteady 5 Buyers sale on here. Mostly looking to fly my Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera, but at this point I'm debating hopping on board with the 5 and just grabbing the 7 so I always have the option to fly larger rigs in the future.

Matt,

Sounds like a winner to me.

Hi Dave,

Very interesting deal. What are the shipping costs to the Netherlands? When ordering the Allsteady 7 via Turboace, with the couponcode Reduser the amount to pay still shows 2795,00 usd. Will this be corrected on final order? Please inform me,

Willem
