GROUP BUY 2019 – OSEE LCM 215-HDR 1000nits 21.5" Monitor Kit

Good Value for money...

Good Value for money...

I've had this monitor for about 3 months now and it is great value for money. I use it alongside my 17" TVLogic and 17" Panasonic monitors and I prefer the Osee 21.5 over the others. It has become my go-to on-set display. As far as color and features it goes toe-to-toe with the other two or exceeds them. The menu takes a little getting used to but once you get the hang of it it's actually pretty nice, the way things are laid out. It has all the tools one would expect in a high-end production display, such as Waveform, Parade, Vectorscope, Histogram, Peaking, Focus Assist, etc.

The built quality is not quite as sturdy as a smallHD or a Sumo (personally I'm not a huge fan of either, but they are built tough) but the Osee 21.5" plenty tough for regular production work. I love that it comes with a foam insert that fits neatly into a Pelican 1600 case. Usually the foam alone is $175-200.

The cheese plate on the back is a must if you're going to add Teradeks or other accessories to the monitor. Also, make sure you get the screen protector. I've had too many a client "point" something out on screen and damage the display! Honestly, I wouldn't bother with the monitor mount. I did one job with the supplied c-stand mount and then replaced it with a Matthews Vesa mount. Obviously the Matthews costs a little more than the Osee mount but it's much more sturdy and versatile.

I can definitely recommend this monitor, especially at the Group Buy price. Almost makes me want to buy another one.

Abiodun,

Thanks for the photo. If we're talking relative performance then the OSEE is way off and green. Of course can't have too much weight on a photo but does that match your impression? Any idea what setting the SmallHD was in? If it was P3 and being fed 709 it would explain the saturation.

Jan,

As a directors monitor it looks great. How do you feel colo(u)r wise? Doesn't seem that accurate compared to reference grading monitors, right?

It is what it is, a great field monitor

cheers

I wouldn't say performance is way off, but certainly green (slight)

Yeah, you are spot on.
Also agree with everything Jan said except the menu. Even OSEE has a better menu on their 7" monitors though that menu looks like it was influenced by SmallHD's but nonetheless very easy to understand and very intuitive. Navigation is way faster though one could attribute that to the joystick.
As a grading monitor, I am not too sure, But as a feild monitor or director's monitor, its definitely a GO! Its certainly far from perfect but I love the monitor! I would recommend it.

Hey Paul,

Yes, of course it can't compete with some high-end grading monitor but those are anywhere from $7K-$30K. Apples and Oranges...

As a director's monitor I think it's a solid option.

Another factor to consider though, is support. If you are on this for rental or heavy use, if anything happens to the monitor, you probably have to get it to China unlike SmallHD and Sumo that have a US service center. I have had to send in their 7" monitor for replacement more than once. It always has to go back to China. Not to discourage anyone but certainly worth noting.

That's true up to a certain point but an Eizo CG247x is more than capable for grading at this price point. Or there are quite a few 17" P3 displays (same panel appear in FSI, Postium, Konovision) which are closer to reference.

For 709 alone though $7 to $30k gets you large screen reference, but for a one man studio i need something reliable, as reference as possible within reason

cheers
