you guys need to go see HUGO --- and in 3D - regardless of what it was shot on... its a fantastic homage to old cinema cameras and techniques - the hand crank camera and archival footage in that film is to die for.

Damned straight. Sometimes you can just say the word 'camera' and my brain will light up.Great story, Jarred. I Love Cameras. They are soo mystical.
That is not a joke. But the images are of low resolution.

I would like to know what Jim think about Lytro and Light-Field technology
As a kid growing up in Scotland, I received my first camera unuxpecdately, by mail; I was about seven. It was from "dad" - a man I had no memory of.
We couldn't afford film or processing but I used the camera often to isolate certain things and would "photograph" them. I really began using the camera when I became a Merchant Marine.
One of our regular ports was Malaga; I made many snapshots from the deck of the ship (The Oriana) looking out over the region. A year ago a friend of my sister, while on holiday in Spain,
struck up a conversation with an old English guy in a bar in Mijas, Malaga: a long story short, it was my father.
He had been living in Spain since he had parted from my mother. I have just received an address for this other "Bill Anderson", and have sent him an invitation to my current photography exhibition at Winsor Gallery in Vancouver.
I have personal attachment with almost every camera I have ever owned and used as every single one of them taught me something new. But if I had to pick one, it would be the FUJI GX 617:

I hope the 617 EPIC is not that far away...

I've used a lot of cameras and have love/hate for many, but the first footage off of an old Fries vistavision camera blew me away. I was in my early 20s. I'll never forget seeing that projected for the first time. That format seems to have become a super rarity these days though. Which is why I was smitten with a certain DSLR even with all it's horrible technical limitations.
It's fascinating to look back at cameras through out your life and the journey that led you to where you are now.. One odd thing that happened to me was when I began with photography as a child I seemed to be so focused on how to make "bad things" happen. Double exposures, light bleeds, flashing, burning, scratching, cracking lenses, smearing Polaroids, leaving the mag open, etc... Good clean photographs seemed to never interest me as a kid.
Then strangely I put photography down for a few years until around the end of high school, and looking back at the beautiful places I've camped and hiked I probably shouldn't have. Pretty damn quickly after that I was thrust into a world of still cameras, digital medium backs, and prototype motion picture cameras shooting material ranging from extremely technical imaging to those weird "bad things" I used to shoot as a child. Circle of life I guess. Spent a huge amount of time digitally scanning S35, color correcting/grading, and filming out via laser recorder. So much technical work. Never imagined something like that.
Just prior to exiting high school I was focused on genetic engineering and molecular biology. I don't recall why the dramatic shift transpired, but it was pretty quick and I was hell bent on working in motion pictures and producing imagery for some reason. Looking back at it now it makes me wonder how and why that rather quick transformation took place.
Beautiful pictures, Peter -- first class work. Ichiban! 第1!I have personal attachment with almost every camera I have ever owned and used as every single one of them taught me something new. But if I had to pick one, it would be the FUJI GX 617
I discovered Miroslav Tichy a couple years ago and was absolutely dumbfounded. Not only by his images - but also in the ingenuity of the cameras he made and the unique images that were produced.
