Excuse these questions, but I'm trying to learn here:

Is this new Scarlet "Brain" the same thing as the RED-One body? Or, is there a body to the Scarlet too?

Do most accessories, such as the production pack, Red Ram, etc, work on the Scarlet as well as the Red-One?

Thanks for your help.

The brain primarily contains the image sensor and the lens mount, so it's like the R1 body, but without most of the I/O options. The brain is extensible through various additive modules, and is compatible with all current power and recording media, as well as all monitoring options, it's not clear yet whether the production pack or other accessories will be compatible.

Then, I guess, at this time, we can't tell what modules or accessories we'd need or the cost of each. Is that correct?

I/O ???

Base IO Module - $1750
Pro IO Module - $2950

By the way, remember that the IO modules are more than most people buying Scarlet will need - remember that the brain has two balanced audio inputs, HDMI out, and so on.

Actually the lens mount is also a module. The lens module is included with the brain but is removable.

Yes, I can read, but I'd like to know why it is that so many people on RedUser are so rude and seemingly conceited. There must be a lot of "superior than thou" attitudes out there. Just because one person knows more than another, for "any" reason, doesn't mean we can't all be nice, respect one another, and get along. I've been in this business for over 35 years, but I don't go around lording my experience over anyone else. No wonder the Red Company says they'll refuse service to anyone with a bad attitude.

What "exactly" is an I/O module anyway? What does it do?

I totally agree George. There are several people on this forum that should just get ousted because of their "bad attitudes". It's funny to me that they take more time, energy and go out of their way to be a douche instead of just sharing the information they know...it would take a lot less energy to just be humane in the first place.

Just because one person seems to be rude doesn't mean that everyone is, or even that they really meant to be. So don't worry about it, and don't take it as a personal attack. There's always going to be people that want to create a falsely heightened sense of self to deal with (and maybe help, rather than attack). But this is a good lot, with some surprisingly patient guys that one would think might take such an attitude. Just take a look at the David Mullens thread in Cinematography, I mean this guy has been answering everyone's questions patiently for 3 years! And it's great stuff. I find most people are helpful and willing to communicate respectfully.

There are some great threads that have been started to cover the basics, and some that give a general outline of the major updates in the conversations here.
I understand the number of threads and sections on here could be daunting. Here's a few good links...

Now really, I kinda made a workflow for my REDuser viewing. If I'm just taking a glance, I usually only scan the index page quickly to see if there's anything that catches me, and hit the RECON section to see any updates. There's usually one thread, usually there, that's got the real conversations taking place about new developments. For now, the Nov. 30th Announcement Feedback. It usually revolves around the posts of Jim Jannard or Jarred Land, in addition to other RED team members and generally cool guys like Stuart English, Graeme Nattress, Deanan...
Anyways, a lot of times what I do is check their recorded posts to see whats up. Do this by simply searching for their name and clicking, view other posts by user. Or, most of the time these guys tend to be logged in, so at the bottom of the page, they show up in nice RED letters. When confronting a huge thread, I usually go through and read the RED team members (depicted in RED) and moderators (yellow) comments, and any others that may catch me as familiar for good thoughts or otherwise. Note as well the "Sticky" threads (I guess because they stick to the top of the lists?) have been marked as important, and some of the times can be helpful. There is also the "New Posts" tab at the top, sometimes worth a look. There are also MANY other places that I'm sure you can locate interesting topics for discussion. That's just how I tend to do it, and it works out for me pretty well. Good luck.

I/O simply stands for Input/Output. Adds extra options for connecting devices with the camera, such as for audio, monitoring, etc.

Peace.

remember that the brain has two balanced audio inputs.

aren't these just mini jacks ? you may need to get an xlr module if it bothers you, (i dont think the xlr modules are available yet therefore no price at the moment).

Yes they are mini-jacks, but each of these supports a balanced audio signal with +48V Phantom Power.

As for "XLR modules" the Base I/O includes two mini-XLRs and Pro I/O include two full size XLR connectors.

i knew they where balanced (sorry i should have said :smile5:), i was just giving who ever it was that asked the heads up :smile5:, also (im not great with audio so excuse me please) im assuming that the mini jacks wont provide phantom power? do you know if there is a price on the pro I/O?

I apologise if I came off as being rude with that comment - I didn't mean that at all as an insult, just jokingly. Given that it's pretty much impossible to convey the intention behind how something is said on a message board (without using a lot of emoticons), I think that on Reduser it's best to assume people aren't being malicious, as we're generally pretty laid back and friendly...

It just gets a little irritating when people ask questions about things that have been specified in the past (although I acknowledge that it's difficult to find certain bits of information that have been spread through quite long threads if you weren't here as these conversations were happening.)

if you want to save some money, you can get the base I/O and get the mini XLR to full size XLR adapters. I may be missing something technical about why this wouldn't work, but it seems to me that it would. This may stress the jacks over time though.
