GL Optics Sigma 18-35 Rehoused - Group Buy

Just talked with Nan from GL optics, and he decided against a second group buy.

One reason for deciding against a second group buy is that SEVEN customers didn't payed. The only reason we reached such a high discount was because of the large number of orders, allowing GL optics to use economics of scale. But in fact we didn't reached 25+orders, since some people never paid. Nan and I tried to contact them over and over again by mail and here on reduser, but they never replied. Of course Nan didn't wanted to charge the paying customers more, just because some others failed to pay, so the group buy turned into a financially risky deal for GL optics, even though the positive feedback sure pays back a lot.

Anyway, GL optics will announce soon new products (long range zoom and some other cool stuff) and if you're interested in buying a lens, you can contact me (I'm an official dealer for GL optics) or of course Nan directly.

Cheers
David

Does anyone know the final Specs of the lens?

Weight, Length etc....

Yeah thats a bummer for those that wanted in. Its the biggest challenge for Group Buys when people sign up and don't commit. I understand with certain circumstances that people need to bail out, but it would be courteous to inform the organizer to free up the spot. I commend Nan for going through with the GB for the ones who paid. It really was an awesome deal. Hopefully he will change his mind with the new Sigma 24-70! (I hope that rumour is true!) Much thanks to David for organizing!

why not extend the group buy to the next seven people?

That really sucks. They missed out. The lens turned out great.

I've got this lens (the 300 degree version) about a week ago and used it on two productions now, and it's so great! Nothing but nice words were said about the picture quality. That extra stop + really makes a difference, and the quality build just takes it all the way to the highest professional level.
No, Don't work for Nan, just incredibly happy, and really, for the price and the uniqueness of the 1.8 stop on a zoom, this lens is a no brainer...

Each mount is an option, so yes. I got mine with PL/EF mounts and 300 degree options. The only caveat regarding the mounts is that Nan needs to adjust them for each lens (each mount has the serial number of the lens, pretty cool) so you have to order them at the time of the lens purchase, otherwise you need to send the lens back to Nan in China.

So is the current version of this lens shipping with a swappable mount? PL/EF/Nikon

Marcos is right. You can find the additional mounts in my store.

The GL optics 11-16 mk2 is now also available with the interchangeable lens mount (not yet on the store... send me a mail if interested).

About getting the other 7 lenses... they were never manufactured, since the clients didn't responded. The problem was that with lower production numbers, the costs for the other lenses rose.

Sorry guys, as posted earlier, the lenses were never manufactured, since the clients didn't replied. Given the smaller number of manufactured lenses, the cost per lens rose for GL optics.

So it's impossible to buy one of those seven lenses. Anyway, if you want to buy a lens, you can send me a mail or pm, or you can of course also contact Nan directly. Delivery is within two, maximum three weeks (orders placed after January 15th will be slightly delayed since there are holidays in China at the end of the month).

Has anyone used the 300 degree version on a MOVI?

I know that people used Ultra Primes on the MoVI, so it should also work easily with the GL optics 18-35.

I used the lens with my Scarlet on a prototype of my gimbal it works nicely :)

I am seriously interested in this lens and am trying to decide between the 120° and 300° versions. Most of my other glass is cine-modded Contax, so I am used to dealing with limited focus rotation. However, my kit rents frequently, and I'd like to choose the most desirable version for the rental market. Unfortunately, I'm on a budget, so the cost difference is significant. Any thoughts?

If you're using mostly a remote follow focus system, I would save the money and would buy the 120degree version. Otherwise I would choose the 300degree version.
