GL Optics Sigma 18-35 Rehoused - Group Buy

I am seriously interested in this lens and am trying to decide between the 120° and 300° versions. Most of my other glass is cine-modded Contax, so I am used to dealing with limited focus rotation. However, my kit rents frequently, and I'd like to choose the most desirable version for the rental market. Unfortunately, I'm on a budget, so the cost difference is significant. Any thoughts?

Hello,

I went with the 300° version because the throw between inf and 1 m is really small.
Here a picture from David's video 300° version. I guess that the the throw of the 120° version still will be smaller.

Can anyone with access to the Sigma and RPPs post .r3d stills of the 18-35 (wide-open) and a 50mm or 85mm RPP (also wide open)?

Wanna see if they match anywhere close to each other (sharpness, colour, contrast).

If someone owns RPPs in Switzerland / south Germany, we could meet and test them.

Here you can see what Antoine Baumann and I did today. A simple test to get an overall impression shot on Dragon 6k 6144x3160.

DXO labs rated the 18-35 as a T1.8 but I think it's more like a T1.9 or T2.0...

from the pics...

or maybe it's just the lower contrast of the RPP which tricks the eye! ;)

The sharpness difference is quite noticeable!

My copy of the Sigma seems sharper than that, WO @ 18mm...mmm

Don't forget we are out into the wild and light could have changed. This test is not to rate the T stop of the lens. But you are probalby right that the GLoptics Sigma has a tiny bit less light (1/5th) than the RPP.

Man... I hope someone ends up selling theirs for the group buy price... Or another group buy happens in a few months (just after NAB?)... Someone has to dislike this lens, right?

Either that or the rumoured 24-70 "t2" is just as easily rehoused...

There wont be any group buy for the GL optics 18-35 anytime soon, but we're preparing right now a group buy for the new GL rehoused Leica R lenses. More info soon :)

Here's the list of Leica lenses which GL optics is rehousing. The list isn't final yet, since not all lenses are finished yet and there still might be some issues prohibiting one or an other lens to get rehoused. I'll announce the price (also for the group buy) as soon as all the lenses are finished and all the specs are finalized.
