8-bit S35 CMOS cameras were rumoured since the R1 came out.

Panasonic GH2 (body less than 1000 bucks) is a way to go (beats right-away 5D in HDDSLR market) if you do not want to risk to loose money with buying new Sony thing before get your hands on Scarlet S35.

Newest Sony and Panasonic "video" cameras are obsolete in many ways that is starting with ergonomics...all of them are bulky boxes...

I think you are all forgetting about a certain company that has revolutionised the digital photographic market. Phase ONE.

I have owned their products now for over 6-7 years and they are leaps and bounds ahead of anyone in their game in digital photography.

I have been a DP just as long as i have been a commercial photographer and these guys make the best digital backs for still photography in the market.

I personally own a Phase One P-45+ back for my 20 year old Hassleblad and the pictures are second to none. Epic can't even compete at this level for digital photography.

Well my point is this... They are about to release a RAW version of the 2.5Inch square block that records RAW video.

Can anyone imagine a Hassleblad medium format camera recording RAW video?? This is just crazy!!!

Everyone one REDUSER is talking about full frame 35mm! This format is almost 4 time the size!!!

Sony and Panasonic maybe dragging the chain but look out for PHASE ONE. They are by fat the industry leader in photo and now they are looking at VIDEO!!!

So far I have only seen 1 fps from Phase One. Great that they are entering the game. But how do you do uncompressed RAW at 4GB/sec?

I actually can imagine a 645 sensor doing motion. We have that coming... and at 48fps.

Jim

Jim I hope you do and I hope you do it for $25K USD!!! If you can you will be richer than Bill Gates!!!!

The one problem though.... Where do we buy glass from!!!!!!!

Use any glass available... interchangeable mounts, including Hasselblad, Mamiya and Pentax. Pretty easy.

Totally expected RED style. Use what you have, we will supply the mounts. And then, as an option, we will have awesome RED medium format glass with unbeatable price ;) or won't we - hehe

for all the EPIC announcements, I'm still curious about the big sensors coming up. It sure seems you haven't abandoned them - not that I ever thought you would. But first things first! ;)

Looking forward to moving 645 and larger - uhm were do we watch that? :D

Jim, if I weren't in Germany and wide awake, you'd ruin my nights :D

Still up, I see. Whatever, you can sleep on the plane. :}

You spend long hours making stuff for us...What would you like made for you? (Aside from cameras...Fiji can wait a little longer.)

:D

There is a big problem with that Jim and let me explain what happens...

My first experience with Phase one was a P25 digital back. I also bought the 5x4 adapter that shoots 3 images and stitches them together.

All the original Hassleblad lenses were not sharp enough for the digital back or even older Roddenstock 5x4 lenses were not suitable.

What happened was then images were so blurry that were unusable not to forget the amount of chromatic aberrittion (Forgive my spelling!) Especially on the old 5X4 lenses.

As soon as I used more modern T* Hassleblad lenses from the 80's things were fine.

I explored all of these options through Phase one and what we all agreed on was this.

Digital photography needs to be treated differently to shooting on 120 stock film. (Der Obvious)

film is a lot more forgiving than digital so digital lenses should be used. So Hassleblad made their H2, H3 and now H4 systems.

Here is the funny part. Fujinon makes the Hassleblad lenses now and my 50,85,120 and 250mm Hassleblad original T* lenses that my father first bought in 1985 are not only sharper, but the colours are so much better.

This is a known fact but the new Hassleblad lens system are AUTO FOCUS which makes fashion photography much easier to photograph.

My Nikon 5x4 lenses from the eighties are fine. and the main explanation I have been given is that lens manufacturers perfected the front optic coatings then.

But again my point is NO ONE IS MAKING QUALITY GLASS for medium format cameras now and people want to buy on price point. So you guys might up ending making the best cinema camera ever made but please put the same passion into making glass suitable for your gear ( And yes your prime lenses are a great start) as it makes life hard when buying your products to have a struggle after the purchase to put something great in front of your awesome sensor.

They have an on sensor pixel binning combines 16 bayer pixels into 4 bayer pixels which effectively makes their 60mpix camera into a <4mpixel camera (around 2250x1675). It also increases their framerate from 1fps to 1.4fps. But this is for their CCD cameras and they'd have to switch to CMOS sensors to do video.

Im sorry but i don't understand. The physical size of my sensor is 2.5inches square. How is this less than 4 megapixel?

This is 4 times larger than any "video" sensor on the market

Resolution isn't the same as physical size. When you start binning pixels together than you're reducing the resolution by 4 in both directions. The result is a 60 megapixel image is reduces 16x to 3.75 megapixels.

The surprise for me is that other companies have never tried to deliver the future. It seems like they have given only what was necessary. If it appears that I am calling them out, I guess I am. Now that we are invested in this thing... I am now confident with what we have now and what we have in the bag for the future... we can do that. We have new stuff coming that will blow minds. It is only because we are looking forward... not "what is good enough".

Jim

Might be because they have to answer to stock holders etc... And telling those: "look we just scraped what we had in the pipeline for the next 10 years and will not release any product until we have developed THE perfect camera in 4 years time for a price that is a fraction of the price of our premium cinema line!" might have been difficult.

It's good to be your own man, Jim! Enjoy it! We certainly do! :)

Okay, you just crossed the line. You better have a cool name for your "Skunk Works" division.

I know the info is highly classified, compartmentalized, need-to-know, non-official-cover, encrypted, covert, eyes-only and awesome and I want to hear more.

Just give me an eeency weency taste via PM or email. Hire some goons to beat me in morse code, so that I both learn about it and get the message that I better keep it to myself at the same time.

Seriously, Jim, that's quite a load to drop on a guy like me. You guys are killing me. LOL!

I suspected that it is Epic +++ other stuff that's got Jim too excited to sleep.
Better make a wack more money, too much stuff to buy!

You must have a prototype P45+ coz our P65+ only has a 54x40mm sensor.... and the retail P45+ is only 37x39mm

Great to hear you throw the pentax in there. Thought I might have to make my own mount.

I traded a guy one of my consumer u/w housings for a 645n and a pentax AF 400mm plus 30mm (Russian) fisheye, then ebayed for man focus SMC 35mm (~$600) and 55, 75, 120macro and 200 for another $600 or so - with the idea of underwater and wildlife epic 645 at 9k.

It all seems to be excellent glass both optically and mechanically.
