Does the Sony boss stay up late and do this stuff? I'm curious...

BTW... who IS the Sony guy? Really. Who is he? Do we even know his name?

I think some heads are going to be rolling at Sony very soon.

Yea OK Sony. What a joke. Half that presentation was them taking stabs at RED.

And at least 80% of RedUser is posters taking stabs at everything that isn't made by Red.

Business is business. Part of selling a product is stressing what a company believes its potential customers want and offering criticism of other devices that don't do things the same way as yours. It's no different than politics. Or religion, for that matter. Selling is selling, regardless of the venue and regardless of the vendor. That's not an excuse, it's a fact.

LOL…”Jim Jannard has just posted that he expects the S35 Scarlet to ship before April 2010″

You don’t actually believe that do you? a non red1 owning customer (Like me) is gonna be able to have s35 scarlet in my hands around or before april. The Sony F3 has forced them to make this clam.

I simply don’t believe anything that comes out of the mouth of Jim Jannard, as it relates to released dates!

NOW BAN ME!

RED definitely never runs out of arrogance, drama and confidence.

If you can pull off the S35 by April 2011, you have earned it.

And then I will become a RED believer too!

However, I must say it is good to see a few RED lemmings are waking up from time to time on this forum. Thanks Carl!

;)

(future RED lemming - maybe!)

Good to see RED pushing the others to release.

Even if the competition's offerings are technically inferior to RED, they are products that we probably would have had to wait a lot longer for, or perhaps they may have never seen the light of day...

The surprise for me is that other companies have never tried to deliver the future. It seems like they have given only what was necessary. If it appears that I am calling them out, I guess I am. Now that we are invested in this thing... I am now confident with what we have now and what we have in the bag for the future... we can do that. We have new stuff coming that will blow minds. It is only because we are looking forward... not "what is good enough".

Jim

I remember at NAB two years ago being at the Red booth, watching one of the Red squad demo the camera. A Japanese man walked up and asked the Red employee, "I have a question. How come so cheap?"

I don't know what company the Japanese man was with - maybe he wasn't with a company at all. But I just had this feeling like it was somebody from Sony or Panasonic just wondering what to make of Red. I'm sure you guys have a lot more stories like that. :)

Carl, Simon, it's simple guys. Buy the best camera on the market at the time you need it and then, if you've been busy being a professional with your previous purchase, you should be able to trade up when the next best thing comes out. I'll tell you this much - once Epic and Scarlet do ship, the time gap between that day and the day the next big thing comes out will be a long one indeed.

LOL...I've never been a red lemming...I'm still waiting for 3k for 3k!

There have been mega budget Hollywood productions shot on RED. What do you make of that. And watch out for the biggest production of next year. Very likely it will be shot on EPIC or should I say EPIC 3D.

You are taking change in schedules too seriously. But at REDuser, every time a delivery is pushed back, we get delighted. Because there will something better come out of it.

I'm not a part of your cult...This is true. the best tool for the job always wins!

Use any glass available... interchangeable mounts, including Hasselblad, Mamiya and Pentax. Pretty easy.

Jim

Is that for the EPIC/Scarlet? The 3rd party mount issue is the primary purchasing decision for me. I have several times the cost of an EPIC invested in glass with mounts other than PL, Nikon, or Canon EOS.

What is the latest on this? Thanks

Very true, Carl. I am also saying the same thing. Watch out for what will be "the best tool" for the biggest Hollywood production early next year.

I think people are being unnecessarily harsh on this product. Sure, it is behind the times but I can see many many projects being shot on it. Many do not need all the power that the Red delivers.

I do agree that it is WAY overpriced. Realistically, it should be sub $10,000 but Sony has always thought that their brand name was worth more than it really is. Just look at any of their products, top notch quality but costs more than it should. But hey they make a ton of money so for them, don't fix was is not broken. You can always choose not to buy it. Im glad we have options. Now if this thing was 2+k res, the price would not seem so bad, but I cant imagine paying that much for those features.

You're surprised a bunch of over-payed glorified spreadsheet jockeys in suits aren't setting innovative road-maps? ;)

I think they probably have pretty extensive road maps. Just a lot more rest stops along the way :-)

Or they did not make a map of those road maps and now they are lost trying to figure where they are:frown2:

come on guys... I have a Sony Betacam SP deck that has been working every day without fail (except for routine maintenance) for over 11 years. Amazing. And I have Sony cameras that has been to hell and back and they still work. Credit where credit is due.
