Hey guys I am new here to the forum.
Went from shooting stills to shooting video on DSLR's.
I guess I am kinda the target market RED is looking to attract with the release of there Scarlet.
I want to shoot something that is dedicated for video something that I dont need to buy 100 different attachments for to transform it into a video camera.
Im looking for a fairly compact camera that has a smooth easy work flow with Cinematic qualities. A start package that will get me up and shooting that will be realistic to my budget.
The Scarlet could very well be this camera.
I just want to know if the scarlet will be realistic for me and other indie shooters switching from DSLR to RED.
How much (aprox) will the Scarlet retail for and where can I buy it from (I Live in Australia) will there be any Australian resellers or would I need to order directly from RED? And if so would I need to ad the extra Australian taxes to the price when purchasing items from abroad that exceed the $1000 price bracket? The problem is if there will be any Australian resellers they will ad another 2000 - 3000 $ to the price that will automatically put this camera in another price bracket and unfortunately will not be very realistic for the indie film maker.
What do you get with the Scarlet?
I have seen videos of it on youtube were I can see a monitor and a remote control attachment to it.. does this come with the scarlet or are these adons, and if so how much would they cost in addition to the camera?
Would I need to purchase any other accessories to get my camera up and running? (Bateries, cables, memory cards, quick release plates and systems etc etc?) and if so how much more could this cost in addition to the camera?
Would my iMac and 1tb LaCie external hard drive be enough to be able to handle the files for editing? Or would I need to budget in a new computer?
Would my accessories for my 5d work with the scarlet.
Manfrotto 546B-PRO Video Tripod with 504HD Fluid Video Head
Glidecam 4000pro
Keesler pocket dolly
The Scarlet seams very interesting indeed and I am very keen. Even the fact of the fixed lens does not bother me to much I only have 2 lenses for my 5d a good zoom and a quick prime and It actually works very well.
Some part of me even feels that it would be really nice to have the 1 super good lens and not have to worry about what lenses to shoot with etc. It makes it more about what it actually comes down to.. shooting good video and much less about gear, if that makes any sense. But the only thing is can the Scarlet be financially possible for an indie shooter like my self switching from DSLR's to a proper dedicated video camera?
Cheers
